This small hotel is situated some 600 metres directly east of Ayutthaya railway station. Crossing the rail tracks you see a helpful signpost to Baan Thai House. It is set in peaceful, spacious and well-maintained grounds. Everything seems to "fit" from the old canoe tied up at the lakeside to the planters and railway sleepers in the garden. The swimming pool is very clean and long and deep enough for a good swim.

Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the Mayteedol sisters who run the business. She
discouraged us from bike riding around the town's vast array of archaeological sites and advised us to hire a tuk tuk for half a day instead. Later we saw the wisdom of this advice. The tuk tuk cost us 500 baht for half a day and our driver was very pleasant and helpful, even buying us bags of fresh pineapple along the route. He didn't have to do that..

Our detached Lakeside Villa was very lovely - clean and tastefully decorated. It had a wooden deck overlooking the lake and a beautiful hardwood floor. The aircon unit was new and very quiet. Our only complaint was that the shower bracket was broken so it was impossible to stand under the shower. You had to hold the shower head with one hand.

The breakfast was very nice - including eggs and bacon and little rice cakes with fresh orange juice, toast and coffee

The Baan Thai House was a very special hotel to stay in. Though more expensive than the average Thai hotel, the extra cost was well worth it. Luxury, peace and spiritual satisfaction arising partly from those gorgeous grounds where as I say, everything seemed to "fit".

Room Tip: Get a Lakeside Villa - not many baht more.

Besides The Pavilion in Phom Penh the Baan Thai House is the most adorable, charming hotel I've ever been to. Even though it is only 3min away from twon by motorbike (can be rented at reception) you feel as if you are in a national park. The staff is also very kind and helpful. On our next Thailand trip we will definitely come back and hopefully stay longer than only 2 nights. Nearby (approx. 400m) is a nice little floating market (apparently targeting Thai tourists) where you can go on elephant-rides (600THB for 30min), buy original T-sHirts for resonable prices.

There is nothing about this place (called a home stay in Thailand) that is not perfect. Not only is the food, service, and comfort amazing and priced well, it is a true escape from the chaos of sight-seeing. Ayutthaya is a lively and wonderful adventure, and Baan Thai helps you appreciate it, both by organizing and by being a way station in the insanity of a trip around asia with a pre-teen. They treated our 11 year old son wonderfully, with all his food quirks and were gracious and concerned at all times. The pool was the perfect respite after a hot afternoon among the wats and in the a.m. there was an elephant in the side field next to Lotus Villa 1 and a cayman-like creature swimming and crawling around the lagoon. A fantastic find, thanks to Agoda! The only drawback was somewhat hard beds.

Highly recommended for people to have a fantastic relaxation time and value for money.
The location is very central and staff is extremely helpful and getting you where you want to get to. The breakfast is also good with choise of western or thai food.
Nothing can beat the embience and the style of the old traditional Thai chalets I stayed in.
Also the massage and spa is alvailable at affordable prices.
