I visited Kodaikannal with my family in mid-October 2012 and stayed in Villa Retreat.
The hotel shares it's entrance with the Coaker's Walk streets arch, making it the most strategic place from which you get beautiful view of the entire landscape. All other places - busstop, Kodai Lake, Bryant Park are all in 5 minutes walking distance. Irrespective of the room you stay, you can always enjoy the complete valley view from the hotel's dining-garden area. Get up early to see a clear blue view.

There is a victorian style over the shed play area with carrom, chess for you to spend evening time. In fact the hotel-building is from very old time and is located on direct valley view. The hotel staff are very coordial, friendly and helpful.

I WILL VISIT AGAIN KODAIKANAL, AND STAY IN THIS VERY HOTEL.

Room Tip: All rooms are good and have different budget. If you are on a budget, still the entire valley is 100...

Stayed at Villa Retreat last week and it was a wonderful experience. The view from the restaurant and garden is stunning. The staff really exceeded all expectations. After learning it was my birthday just from my sign-in information, they went to great lengths to surprise me with a cake and flowers after dinner at the restaurant. They also had helpful suggestions for our stay in Kodaikanal and traveling around India. Would highly recommend to anyone going to Kodaikanal!

nice hotel with an excellent view of valley which very few of the hotels in kodai may have.
no need to insist on the classic room with valley view as the dining is in open with same view. Nice food with excellent hospitality. Also i would suggest to visit tava veg restaurant on 7 road corner. its serves simply great food at low cost.

Room Tip: semi classic room is very small. can stay in any room

Ten years ago I had stayed at this place and when I planned a surprise trip for my wife, I did not look at another property for our stay. It was as though I had once again traveled back in time. Except for a few pleasant changes to the property and none of the old faces to greet us, it still had staff that had the same warm welcoming and attentive smiles. Ten years ago the father managed the premises and today its his young son, but the focus is still the same - to make any stay, totally enjoyable and memorable.
Maybe not after another ten years, but sooner, we would want to stay here again for a longer time and do nothing but relax.
We have a travel bug and for those who have or have not visited Kodaikanal - try the Villa Retreat and you will know what I am talking about.
All photographs posted are taken by us and only of the old block and view from the Suite and the front lawn.

Room Tip: Opt for rooms in the Old Block and if you can do a Suite.......... nothing like it.

We stayed here for 2 nights and its very pleasant stay. The best part of this hotel is its location and the view from the hotel. The hotel is next to Coaker's Walk and very close to the parks, lakes etc. Suggested by one of our friend we had chosen a room which had given us perfect view to the valley. The hotel staff is quite courteous and services offered is good is terms of money charged.

We spent 4 nights at Villa Retreat in January 2013, part of a group of more than 20 people with a total of 14 rooms. It's a lovely property just a little off the beaten path - away from the noise and chaos, but easy walking distance to the lake, bazaar and Kodai School. Our classic double room was clean and comfortable.
We had only 2 complaints - the WiFi was only available in the dining room and then only 2 or 3 people could use it at a time. The biggest inconvenience was the night before we left the manager came around and informed us that we would need to pay for our stay with cash - no credit cards. So we all had to scramble to exchange dollars for rupees or run to the ATM. That ended a lovely stay on a sour note.
I would stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

Quaint little villas in the heart of Kodai, just next to Coaker's Walk. It's actually hard to imagine such a place right at the centre of Kodai which makes many of the touristy places including Kodai lake, Coaker's Walk at walking distance. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room overlooked the valley and the sunrise amongst the mist was amazing.
