Had been to berijam lake during weekday,in the off-season.There was very less crowd in kodaikanal and very few vehicles allowed to enter the forest of Berijam lake. The drive through the dense forest was amazing quiet and pure fresh air.Two or three view points on the way to the lake.Out of which caps valley view was a notable one.Its a steep cliff along the ridge, mostly cloudy but when there is no clouds the view is simply awesome. Its worth a visit.
Then driving further down in the dense forest called mathikattan shola(they say the forest is so dense that if an unknown person goes into the forest they would loose their way)several medicinal plants are found in the forest.
Driving further down there is a view point of the berijam lake sorrounded with dense forests.
Finally we arrived at berijam lake, which was truly amazing. Its a quite lake not much activities in the lake except some wild life sighting's if your lucky enough(Elephats or bision, flying squirils etc)
There are a few forest houses for the forest guards,no electricity. There is only one shop in this lake, which has some snacks and tea/coffee.A forest guest house was also there for VIP's,you need very special permission to stay in this house, they run on generator.
We had our picnic in Berijam lake after which we cleaned up our mess and came back.It is worth the visit. Its around 15-20 kms from kodaikanal.

The lake is quite a simple one and don't have much to say about. Generally, we will not recommend it for investing time and money.

There is no boating, also no crowds, If u want to enjoy the nature and its beauty u have to visit this place. We visited the place at November Month which was a second season, so the entire atmosphere itself was excellent. In summer i dont know how the place will be. You have to get permission from Forest office to visit this place. Yes you have to travel through dense forest to visit this lake. The entire route itself is scenic and awesome. there is no word to explain the feelings we have. Full of mist and the temperature was just 10 when we visited there. you can also see lot of scenic spots enroute during the visit to this place.

Don't go to this lake with too many expectations from seeing the reviews. It is just a lake with no crowd.

We took the permit for our cab at 9.It took us only 5 minutes to get the permit and we went directly to Berijam from the forest office. They have a check post at Moir point to enter the forest area after showing the permit. Make sure you close the windows of your vehicle. There are lot of monkeys at the point. The drive to the lake was good, but it was foggy and visibility was less . We couldn't enjoy the views on the way,as it was foggy. We were the first one to go to the lake and that was the best part. It was peaceful and all we could hear was the sound of water and birds. Me and my wife walked on the banks of the lake and took some nice photographs. That was all..by the time we were on the way back, crowd started coming in...

I visited the lake with family in October, 2013. We had to obtain passes from Forest department for this. It is at a distance of around 20 KM from Kodaikanal. The lake and the forest reserve offer unparalleled beauty. It is the best in Kodaikanal. A must visit for anyone planning to visit kodaikanal.
