The Kurinji Andavar temple in Kodai, dedicated to God Karthikeya , is a very small temple, not big and grand as other temples in Madurai/Chennai are. Yet a visit , esp.in the early morning hours, is a satisfying experience . There is a "darshan fee" of Rs 45 to be paid to the Pujari at the temple for worshipping the "Navgrahas" located at the back of the temple . The environment is quite calm and serene .From the temple you get a panoramic view of the plains and the hilltops . Must find a place in the travellers' itinerary while visiting Kodaikanal .

The temple is at the end of a road along a ridge and from it one can see into the plains to the east and the hilltops to the west. It is another place that is off the beaten path but getting there is a lovely experience, walking or motoring up the hill from the bazaar, past houses and cottages, past the park. Places for tea and refreshments are along the road to the temple.

Nearly 3 kms from the lake this lord Murugan temple is situated. There is tree called Kurinji within the temple premises which flowers only once in twelve years. The last flowering was is 2004
