We spent Deepavali 2011 at the Hill Station of Kodaikanal. The Hill Station is in a much better shape than Ooty. It is more clean and serene.
We stayed at the double room cottage of TTDC Hotel Tamil Nadu. The cottage block looks like an old British building, with a small varendah, the good spacious bed room, an ante-room and a big bathroom. The furnishings in the room are bare minimum, but fully functional. A comfortable bed, a working TV and Inter-com. Hot Water supply is restricted to the morning hours only.
Sitting on the verandah, we get a clear view of the hills ahead. The area is totally silent as the cottage block is placed away from any near by buildings, or roads. In the evenings it would be a pleasure to watch the town going to sleep and the chill setting in. This point also offers a good sunrise view in the morning.
The hotel restaurant offers very basic South Indian food. We also noted that the menu and the food offered on the day may be a total mismatch. The breakfast buffet in the hotel was really great. It may be a better idea to have lunch and dinner at other restaurants in the town.
The room service may NOT be at the same grand level offered at more higher priced hotel. But for around Rs.3000 (two days stay), this was a very good place to be in. The staff was quite helpful, provided you took the initiative to ask for information. The hotel is very close to most popular tourist destinations, but yet away from the crowd and noise.
