“What a beautiful place!”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

This is a stunning heritage property. That doesn't mean five-star but it more than has the comforts and luxuries of home. We had an enormous double room- with charming furnishings and an excellent modern bathroom with the most brilliant shower pressure! The attention to detail is amazing. They have a beautiful swimming pool and the most spectacular open-air courtyard where you can sit out with your drinks. And the village performers- my! I have not experienced a more amusing and talented lot.
Incidentally this is in the same compound as the Laxmi Vilas Palace and is a slightly larger replica of the old building. They share staff, facilities etc, The Reception will let you use wi-fi for a small charge. .
We had an excellent two nights here and I would recommend this place very highly!

Laxmi Niwas Palace is not up to much really, though it looks wonderful in photographs.

The new building is an example of what you might expect to find in Delhi Disneyworld. It has are all the architectural features of Rajasthani palaces in pastel kitsch, an approximation of the old palace next door.

We were booked in a suite and shown to a gloomy chilly ground-floor set of rooms in the new building with only two windows of frosted glass, which we did not accept. We were then offered a considerably smaller suite (501) on the first floor and, although it had the same frosted glass windows, at least it had a terrace with two chairs, no cushions and a minute table. It looked over the entrance piazza, the gardens and to the noisy main road. We were comfortable.

At first the hotel was fully booked, largely by birding tour groups from France, Italy, Germany and the US.

It is a property with a considerable influx of short-term large tourist groups and has all the features one has learned to expect from this. The staff are charmless and largely indifferent to guests’ comfort. The dining room staff are particularly poor in reacting to customer needs. All staff seem to have a clear knowledge of check out days and the quality and frequency of interactions increases remarkably, the closer it comes to the possibility of tips. Used dishes and ice buckets stayed on a ledge outside our door for three days and were cleared only after we insisted that they be removed.

In February, the cold rooms (with marble floors) were partly warmed by a small electric two-setting blow heater (warm, or almost warmer) that is concealed out of sight on top of the wardrobe. We found it after calling reception, other guests didn’t.

The rugs in the room were grubby and there was ingrained dirt round the exterior light switches.

Hot water comes at allocated times and our experience was that during these times it was sometimes lukewarm, hotter at others.

There is no wi-fi in the rooms and there is a reasonable charge to use a laptop or the property’s computers in the reception area.

The pool, and pool terrace, looked good. It was too cold to swim in February.

The tour groups keep coming for one night or two maximum, and the hotel will never see them again. Normal hotel hospitality and courtesy doesn’t seem to enter into the equation. They offer a very touristy Rajasthani experience of drummers, puppets and a shop selling the ubiquitous tourist articles.

The dining room experience is depressing, with large groups crowding the buffet. We stayed for four nights and after the experience of one poor buffet dinner, chose to eat elsewhere. We shouldn’t have bothered trying the restaurant, having been warned by numerous TripAdvisor reports.

The Bagh is an upmarket hotel in a splendid royal orchard about a kilometre further up the road and we regretted not having been booked in there. We went twice for dinner and had excellent food and service. We also had dinner at the Surya Vilas Hotel on the highway that was half the price of the Bagh and half as good. Both were much better than the dining experience at Laxmi Vilas Palace.

We suppose it is an acceptable choice for a group for a night. Independent travellers should look elsewhere – The Bagh if it is within budget.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms seemed dark and dingy, especially those in the new building. The room we acc...

A perfect location with a special charm and outstanding service. Not the luxury of a 5 starhotel but so much more of indian genuin life and hospitality. The chef is doing an outstanding job as well as the tandooreman preparing all kind of BBQ snacks at poolside.... This time the visit to the park was better than the last 10 years as the water is back and the birds! Also in the garden of the hotel more birds than ever. I did a trip to Deeg. - more beautiful than before - as well as to the citycenter of Bharatpur with its museum. - really interesting and one of those places where You can feel no other tourist have found out of the treasure yet. One day I went to Agra, one to Jaipur and one day to Dholpur for the Chambal river safari and a superb lunch in the Raj Niwas Palace. A also went by train for a quick trip to the center of Delhi.....So close and still so far from all kind of pollution, noice and whatever can be a problem when You are a tourist in India. Thank You for existing lovely hotel!

Room Tip: A poolfacing room with Your own terrass is the best!

We were looking for a weekend getaway close to the NCR since I am based out of Gurgaon. Laxmi Niwas is an incredible property..very well maintained..it takes you back to the Royal era.. well trained staff and exceptionally nice rooms...we had a private terrace to ourselves..and the bird sanctuary was a treat for the little one..would higly recommend it for a family getaway..total relaxation and de- stress weekend!!

Room Tip: The new wing has really nice big room..choose one with the private terrace..incredible..;)

Laxmi Niwas Palace is a quaint place from an earlier era, a well-preserved traditional-style house with inner courtyards. A padlock and sliding bolt locked the double wooden doors opening into my room. The bathroom was modern and clean, the bed reasonably comfortable. The restaurant served an uninspired chicken dish for dinner, but the "American breakfast" was very good, with a generous supply of bacon. I did not try the internet service. The "village" side of Bharatpur (to the right as you leave the main gate; the "town" side is to the left) is interesting and worth a rickshaw ride in late afternoon.

Lovely to be away from plastic 5star hotels and feel a real personal touch to everything from garden, buildings, staff and food as well as puppetshow, massagecenter and perfect help to understand what the best to do in this part of the country can be for a few days relax away from Delhi and other big cities and touristspots.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolfacing room!

We travelled in summer months to this place. its quite near around 15 mins drive to the Bharatpur bird sanctuary. The place is clean with nice breakfast. Each room is diffrent . We got the one with a big bathroom with a shower cubicle inside it. So do check few rooms before moving to one. Also the AC of our room wasn't much effective as it required atleast half an hour to make the room somfortable enough during summer months.

The pool is decent though the water gets dirty in the evening due to small insects near it.

Rest the place is good for a small visit.

Room Tip: Check few rooms before moving to one . All the quite different from each other.
