Hotel CJ International
Ranked #71 of 114 Hotels in Amritsar
Reviewed May 21, 2009

I was staying at the CJ International for 2 nights. The location is fantastic, in some rooms you can hear the singing from the golden temple and the hotel is so close to the golden temple (across the street) that you can visit the temple several times a day and see it in daylight and at night (well worth it).
The cheap shared taxis for the border spectacle leave also right from the temple and virtually almost in front of the hotel, another big advantage.
The rooms are well equipped (some more expensive ones are just fantastic), great hot showers, comfy beds and very clean. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Stayed here about 5 weeks ago when taxi driver recommended it and I can honestly say (after having to bring family to visit border crossing and golden temple every time a new member arrives from overseas) that it is the best hotel in Amristsar- paid about 70 US a night for a triple room and it was just so nice to come in off the dusty streets of Amritsar to this haven. I am a princess traveller living in India for 2 years and love my comforts and this was at least 4 star standard spotlessly clean, tiled sparkly floors, WHITE clean linen on beds, bar fridge, wide screen TV, tasteful bright decor and the best part- literally right across from the amazing golden temple. We looked out our window and were so surprised by how close we were. Also it was the Sikh new year so we were treated to fireworks display above the temple which was cool. The owner is really charming and all of the staff are uber professional. Highly reccomend this place if you want to pay mid range and have peace and comfort (soneeded after a day in dusty but beautiful Punjab).

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. After some hard traveling in Himalchal Pradesh, I was ready for some comfort. at a reasonable price. CJ International provided that. The rooms are very clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. I chose a room in the category above standard (maybe called a deluxe room; I can't remember), and it was well worth it. Surprisingly the rooms are very quiet even though the hotel is directly across from the Golden Temple. I was able to negotiate the price of the room. The staff was friendly and helpful. One evening the owner himself drove me to a restaurant on the other side of town on his way home. The location cannot be beat - the Golden Temple is directly across the street, which allows you to easily visit it at different times of the day.

Right next to the Golden Temple and in the heart of the Old City. Attached restaurant and email access. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice family atmosphere.

as a first time british visitor to amritsar the hotel has a rooftop view of the golden temple which for me is a big bonus. The rooms are very comfortable with very attentive housekeeping and reception staff. They went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed and have helped organise taxis and other visits. thank you! and until the next time

Locationwise it was excellant, literally in front of the Golden Temple. Bad thing was the rickshaws and beggers that hang around at the entrance waiting for people to come out or go in.

The room was small and less glamorous than the ones advertised, we had no balcony, in fact we had no windows! We couldn't change to better rooms as we needed 2 rooms with 2 beds/doublebed, they only had configurations of 3 beds left, those were significantly better rooms.

The towels were very dirty, they had black and "red" stains which I'm hoping was just clay or something. When asked to change them they would give us equally dirty towels. Each day they would wash and give us the same dirty towels as Day 1 (with the same stains, we could correctly identify them). Eventually we just broke into the store room and picked the clean towels ourself.

The restaurant's service is extremely slow, in fact I'm pretty sure they went out, bought the food elsewhere and brought it to us as 1. It took long, 2. It came cold. When we ate at the restaurant we ate relatively late (10pm).

We spent our second night of our three week tour of India in Amritsar in the CJ Hotel.
We arrived at around 11pm on a train from Delhi. We had booked a taxi to collect us through the hotel... it didn't turn up.
On our arrival at the Hotel the staff were disinterested and didn't fill me with confidence that they even knew we were coming, though we had paid in advance.
Our room with a "view of the Golden Temple" was freezing. It was large with a private bathroom and reasonably clean. We had to ask for top sheets and blankets, towels, toilet roll and then gave up and didn't bother asking for soap and shampoo.
We had imagined sitting out on our balcony with a beer looking at the golden temple, but our balcony was an enclosed area supplying three rooms with no seats and a partial view of the Golden Temple. However, the restaurant and bar was now closed so we went to bed (shivvering).
In the morning we were offered a standard breakfast which was fine. Though again we were made to feel that they were doing us a favour.
Later a very nice male receptionist came on duty and appeared far more customer concious. He was helpful, courtious and spoke very good english, so perhaps we had just fallen foul of the night staff!
We were here to see the Golden Temple ... wow! Well worth the effort of the diversion from the normal golden triangle route. We also visited Atari to see the closing of the border which was fantastic.
All in all, the hotel was tolerable and not overpriced, but it was not worth the extra payment for the "view". It is very close to the Golden temple so you can hear the calling to prayer which is very atmospheric.
As ever Amritsar is a chaotic, noisy, filthy place, but nothing can take away from the amazing Golden Temple, which unlike many other sights in India including the Taj Mahal does not feel like a tourist attraction which was really nice.
