Over all hotel is good, provides decent experience, but if you look further you would understand that maintenance is an issue with hotel. I understand hotel has been there for many years now and this is all apparent. Lighting in the room was below standard, flush valve was defective and it took much time to stop the flow of water ( which was very irritating ), found the buffet break fast to be below standard.
Frankly the city has many new hotels and for near same price they would provide more value for money.
On the good side, service was prompt.

I travelled with my wife for a night stay and opted MK over Radisson as it is inside the city. Radisson is about 15 km. Every detail in the hotel was a disaster. Dirty bed linen/ filthy towels and a terrible curtain welcomed us. Then came a restaurant manager who thought we were his slaves and not guests. Very rude !!! Last and the most terrible thing was the chilly chicken I had - In the morning had food poisoning, spent the next two days on bed recovering from motions and vomits. Please dont stay even if they offer Rs 500 for a day's stay. Meanwhile after all this suffering I paid Rs 5000 as room rent.

Room Tip: Rooms are not at all worth the price

Rooms were nice and clean, food was good but a bit pricey. Staff at the reception not all fully geared up to the customer service ! Location not that good, however there is a nice chinese restaraunt near by.

Room Tip: Ignore the people standing at the front door, they all just after your money !

My father and I (in our 40's and 60's) travelled to India for a 9 day sightseeing and trekking tour with the ultimate aim to spend some quality time together. The trip had been booked as a gift through Groupon and the Indian Travel Centre in UK.

The MK Hotel, Amritsar was our first night in accommodation having arrived in India via Delhi and with an internal flight to Amritsar the same day. Unfortunately the internal flight was delayed and so we only had time to drop off bags with assistance from the hotel staff, before heading off for a planned "must-see" visit to the Wagah India/Pakistan Border crossing to see the ceremonial changing of the border guard (approx 45 mins drive away).

On return from the border we freshened up and had dinner at the hotel restaurant. We chose local dishes and the fish curry dish especially was excellent. Overall the evening meal was very good, with plenty of food brought out and offered and the service was fine. The food was very good value for money. After dinner, which was quite late, we took a walk around the local area outside of the hotel but this was pretty dark and shabby and there was not much going on or to see.

At breakfast the next day there was a good choice of local and European food offered and again the food was of good quality and the service was fine.

The room, bed and bathroom were all clean and comfortable. Other amenities included a small pool and gym, the pool had been drained and so could not be used, the restaurant (see comments above) and wifi. The wifi signal was very weak and slow especially in our room.

Following a large breakfast we booked out to make our way to Dharamsala (5hrs drive) via the Golden Temple. One tip would be to skip breakfast as you can eat at the temple for free as part of the experience. The earlier you get to the temple the better to avoid the crowds, we arrived quite early and this is another must see visit.

Overall the MK is well situated for visiting the border and Golden Temple although you will need to ensure you have planned your transport arrangements. Fortunately we had a driver and guide as part of our overall tour package.

I would recommend the MK for a short visit to Amritsar and would stay there again.

The room was basic and it was not clean. Stains on the carpeting in the room, stains on the bed linen, mould in the bathroom. Dirt in the corners in the room... Very disappointing. The only thing that was good was the restaurant for dinner: it had a nice variety of dishes and everything was very tasty. Also very friendly staff in the restaurant and a nice decor. Breakfast was not so good on the other hand, mostly Indian food and very basic continental choices.

Great Location. Great Food (Real Amritsar delicacies). Good Stay. Good service and bed. If you can leave alone the fact tat the lobby needs a facelift. But again food is great. Staff is suave and professional, well trained.

Room Tip: Do not enter the city to reach MK. You can reach from Loharka Road on Byepass and this is just 3 kms...

Why do some hotel owners spend millions of dollars to put up a nice property and then not maintain it? About 8 years back MK was the best hotel in town. Now it is a poorly maintained yesterday's news!

Front Desk: Badly need training. Gave me a room without any conversation. Although my room was pre-paid, they did not ask for a credit card for incidentals. Did not sat anything about breakfast that was included. Next morning the Front Desk staff was much more professional.

Room: On reaching the room, I discovered it to be a smoking room with twin (not Full size!) beds. I called and asked for another room - the hotel was nearly empty - but after 10' I trudged down and, again, without any conversation, I was handed another key!

This time the room was non-smoking with a king bed. The room was tired, old with no signage on A/C - Heat/Cold button; signs asking you to stay away from the window glass - as it might fall! Beat-up putty on tub and windows.

The cleaning could have been better with previous occupants hair in the tub and his room service order on the scratch pad! Towels, curtains, tent cards were also looking tired! But nice spacious corner room.

Dining/Bar: Good selections of liquors including single malts at reasonable prices. Food was edible but not great. Breakfast next morning was a nice spread, with parathas made to order.

ISTA and Raddison Blu are much better hotels but MK may still be good value!

Room Tip: 3010is a spacious non-smoking corner room.
