“Peaceful retreat from streets of Amritsar”
Reviewed April 27, 2011

This lovely old house, with spacious verandas, makes a wonderful, peaceful retreat from the chaotic streets of Amritsar. It is a rickshaw ride away from the amazing Golden Temple and there are always rickshaw drivers waiting outside for a fare. Although we enjoyed our stay, there were a few niggles that let the place down: it is a shame that so many cars are parked right in front of the house, as we had to squeeze between them to get across to the dining room and they do spoil the feel of the place a little. The evening buffet was very good but on our first night it wasn’t very hot. It is also a shame that at breakfast they serve ‘industrial’ brightly coloured jams rather than the lovely looking homemade ones they sell in their own shop. Service was rather hit and miss and it was a shame that the ladies on reception didn’t smile – everywhere else in India we found people exceptionally friendly but here some staff were rather frosty.

A great hotel, wonderful large room, special touches of incense and herbal teas in the room. Lovely setting, hard to believe its so close to the main road. Only issue that buffet dinner not too warm - a la carte fine.

A quiet Havelli down a short lane away from the bustle of town. Quirky place. The bedrooms are acceptable but the bathroom could have been cleaner. A pidgeon was nesting outside the bathroom window and pidgeon mess was coming into the bathroom via an ill fitting window. There was a bare lightbulb actually inside the shower cubicle just waiting to be accidentally broken and electrocute the person showering...this needs immediate attention.
We still enjoyed our stay and would go back. An easy TukTuk to the Golden Temple about a mile away, although we took a cycle rickshaw which was more fun. Get a taxi, or use the hotel car to go to the border closing ceremony at Wagga..brilliant fun. Take your passport so you can get into the VIP section.

Every evening, as the gates of Ranjit's Svaasa would open for us after a tour of the crowded Amritsar city, we felt a sense of peace and tranquility - just what you want on a vacation. I planned a trip to Ranjit's Svaasa, Amritsar as a birthday gift for my mother and a vacation for my 3-year-old baby. I must say the hotel fulfilled the purpose of my trip with its warm staff and cosy ambience. My stay was like being in a home away from with all the luxury. The room service, housekeeping was perfect. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. The hotel's distance from the heart of the city keeps it away from the constant activity of Amritsar and makes it the perfect hideout.

In a quiet secluded lane away from the everyday frerenetics of every Indian city, this hotel is long on charm and warmth. What it lacks in polished accommodations, it makes up for with a genuinely warm staff that goes the extra mile to make you happy- and that is it's strongest point. Our room was very comfortable, but the foyer and ground floors are beautiful. The breakfast was really nice- good food and service. It was lovely to sip a few beers on the veranda at the end of the day, watching the huge bats taking off for the night.

There may be better, more polished, hotels in Amritsar, but I bet none has a staff as dedicated to your wellbeing- and that meant much to us. Amritsar is special. We were wowed by the incredible friendliness of the Punjabi people both inside and outside of the Golden Temple, and the hotel was an integral extension of that overall experience here. It's lack of outright polishedness wasn't a detraction; in fact, it seemed to enhance it's charm all the more.

Tucked away down a quiet lane off a busy road. The hotel has a calm, tranquil atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, retaining an old fashioned charm. Thr rooms were clean, everything appeared to work. The breakfast was adequate and the staff helpful. The spa offered excellent massages and a range of treatments. A cycle rickshaw taken from the bottom of the lane is an interesting way to get to The Golden Temple. A daytime and a nightime visit are well worthwhile.

From the Amritsar train station, a motorcycle rickshaw driver only charged 50 rupees to take me to Ranjit’s Svaasa. The hotel was practically empty; only one other guest, so I was upgraded to a Svaasa suite. I only stayed one night, but from what I could ascertain, the upkeep of the mansion with its beautiful, rambling architecture and fascinating museum-like artifacts was caring and good. The room was quirky, but large and comfortable. Both dinner (pre-set menu) and breakfast were quite good. The staff was helpful, arranging a car to take me to the border in the morning, but I got the impression they were somewhat clueless (a comment similarly made by a previous reviewer). All in all, I do recommend Ranjit’s as probably one of the more interesting places to stay in India and would definitely stay there again.
