“Convenient location and helpful staff”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

The best thing about this hotel was its location across from the train station. With an early arrival and an early departure it made very convenient. Unfortunately despite advising them of our early arrival there was confusion during the check in process which required calls to the offsite manager. The hotel charged us an extra night for our early check in. This could have been told to us through email and saved a lot of hassle.

The rooms were generally clean but very very musty. The beds and sheets felt damp and the room smelt like mold.

The food at the restaurant was very good and the beers were fairly cold. The half day tour organised by the hotel was good and allowed us to see the highlights of Amritsar. Wifi worked well in the lobby and restaurant but not in the room.

Overall an OK stay. Airing the rooms regularly and a smoother check in process would make it a much better hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to reception can access wifi

Grand hotel was recommended to us by a friend's relative. The best part of the hotel is it is walking distance from the hotel. When you enter the hotel at first, the lobby might seem to be a bit shady and might put you in doubts, but the rooms are good enough. We were a group of 12 people so had booked 5 rooms. We reached early, there weren't rooms available for check in but the hotel staff was very warm and hospitable to give us whatever rooms were available with them for our comfort. They provided us with the 5 rooms as soon as possible. The owner, the manager, the reception guy, all were very welcoming and nice. They arranged cars for us as well. Overall, the stay was good and I would have recommended the hotel.
Except for the fact that the restaurant staff was horrible. We checked out from the hotel, and requested the owner to keep our luggage safe since our train was in the evening. The owner was kind enough to accept our request and he promised us that we can come nd rest and spend as much time in their restaurant without any hesitation. But when we came back, the restaurant staff kept asking us to move here and there. We were forced to sit in their Bar. We ordered a couple of beers so that they might not be hesitant in switching on the AC for us, but they blatantly refused to switch on the AC and were very rude. When we said we'll complain about them to the manager and owner they were like, Do whatever you want to do? We don't care.
Apart from this experience towards the end, we were fine with the hotel. But those 2 employees black listed the hotel for me.

Room Tip: Go for Super Deluxe rooms!!

We stayed for a night based on Lonely Planet tour recommendations. That was a mistake. Our tour was 1180rupees a couple (6people per car) and involved being dropped off at 3 locations. It was merely a taxi ride - the driver didn't even point in the right direction to walk from each drop off, let alone give a description, time frame or provide any bottled water. On the last stop, the Italians who shared our car were only 7 minutes late, so our driver decided to leave them behind! Don't do their tour, there are others that offer far more and significantly better service in town or, just book a taxi of your own as that's all it was!

Location for hotel is only useful if you're coming from the train station. Otherwise, it's a 100rupee rickshaw ride to town/the Golden Temple and the same to return again.

Rooms are fine. We had a deluxe with attractive new bathroom (which flooded), hot water, an empty fridge, TV and AC. No kettle, only 1 piece of soap, no complimentary water and 1 English speaking TV channel - CNN. No mosquito nets though and plenty of bugs so take spray. We had to request bed sheets which we received, but both were very damp. Wouldn't recommend the upgrade to others, it's not worth it.

Restaurant was fine. Some great Indian cuisine options at a reasonable cost though we saw a couple of rats running around beside the tables, but we're use to that now! The bar is odd - lots of semi naked paintings of women over the walls and Indian men drinking beer watching pop channels on TV, but good for a cheap pint.

We are a young couple and we found that this mid-range Hotel is a great place to stay, as the staff are really friendly and helpful with organizing trips to the Wagah Boarder and the Golden Temple etc. For us we liked the fact that it had a bar and restaurant, as we had somewhere safe to chill out and eat in the mornings and evenings. Its a popular hotel, as it's good value for money and the rooms are nice and clean. We had a few bites but that what you'd expect from being in India! The garden was really lovely and there were loads of little gecko's outside our room which didn't bother us as they are cute and kept the flies away! Overall a really positive experience :)

The Grand is right in front of the train station, located near where the Pathankot buses disembark and just a short rickshaw ride way from the Golden Temple - a perfect hub from which to maneuver. Although a bit pricey, the restaurant food is great but you can find cheaper within a short walk. The rooms (also more expensive than comparable lodging - thanks Lonely Planet) are expansive, clean, and with flat-screen TV's - simple, yet accommodating. The hotel organizes Attari border ceremony transportation (not really a tour) at a reasonable price.

We stayed here for 2 nights, based on LP and Tripadvisor reviews. Was a good choice overall.

Our room was on the ground floor around the courtyard - was nice and big, good AC, cable TV, nice bed, very clean. Also shortly after checking in our tv stopped working and they immediately moved us to another room, even though it must have been hassle for them as we had already used all the bedsheets etc.

Location is excellent! Very short walk from the train station, which makes things very convenient. Also a 3-wheeler to the main centre/golden temple area doesn't cost very much. We met a few people elsewhere in India who told us to avoid guesthouses/hotels in immediate golden temple vicinity, so this fitted the bill.

We also did the border/hindu temple/golden temple tour in the afternoon. We thought it was reasonable value, tour left at 3pm and we got back quite late, maybe 9ish.

We ate their food both nights and whilst possibly slightly expensive, was very nice and good sized portions.

Staff were also friendly - I was unwell during our stay and they kept enquiring with my partner if they could help/call a dr and when i was better also kept checking on me.

Would be very happy to stay there again & would recommend.

We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially the manager. The hotel organises a fairly priced tour to the Pakistan-India border crossing and the golden temple at night. This is well worth it, and you avoid any possibility of being victims of touts. We were given a room upgrade on arrival free of charge. It was will equipped with a tv and aircon. Would recommend to couples or groups back-packing but for looking for something a little nicer than the standard Rs400 rooms.
