“Splendid - calm and peaceful”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

Need one full day for sight seeing. Golden Temple should be attended both during Day and once during night as the temple is open till 10pm.
Darshan should not take more than an hour, maximum 2 hours. Please do not forget to visit all the floors especially the big BOOK (Granth) on the first floor. The temple can be entered from 2 to 3 gates, but the main entrance for the main temple for darshan is only one gate. There are 2 lines side by side. One line to the left – where you can enter the main Dhwar and the second enters from the right side door. Any line is fine. The right line appears moving fast.
There are dedicated places for keeping footwear (free of cost). Head should be covered. They sell head gear outside the temple. Also people who have used the head gear just once, dumps them in a large bin, just before entry, which can be re-used (free of cost).
Very, very close to the Golden temple. Generally there is a light and sound show in the evening. When we came to visit the Golden temple in the night, we attended the show.
WAGAH BORDER: Taxi can be hired for to and fro.
About 25 kms from main town. The stands are not enough for our Indian crowd, hence have to start early at 1500 or 1530 hrs to get some view spot. Caps and Sunglasses will be helpful. Please buy water before you go to the stands. Separate stands for Men and Women. Parade is something different but in my personal view I did not understand why such ferociousness in the parade and how the army and governments have accepted such a retreat parade. The parade can be avoided if you happen to go during peak holiday season as they sell DVD’s all around the place of the parade. Instead the border can be visited at a convenient time. But if it is not a holiday season, you can plan for the parade.
There are few other temples. Durgianna Temple looks similar to the Golden temple setting.
Amritsar is known for its markets especially whole sale markets. Foot-wear, clothing (both Ladies and Punjabi suits for Men). Of-course Punjabi food is really good especially Panneer, Gulab Jamun, rotis etc. – just find the right place.

“Holiest place for peace of mind”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

I have been to this place many times as myself from this city of Golden Temple, called Amritsar. It's an amazing place. Th right place to get he peace of mind. People come from all over the world to visit this place. The philosophy of having the temple right in the middle of holy water pool and the structure is really amazing. People from Sikh religion, it's a place everybody want to visit at least once in their life time.

The whole complex is kept so clean compared to other religious places/temples in India. It was really a visual treat to see all the intricate works on the walls of Harmandir Sahib. We visited the shrine in the morning and at night to enjoy the beauty both in sunlight and at night. One thing which caught our attention was the grammar and spelling mistakes in the boards displayed. This was quite annoying and could be avoided.

“To refresh the body and soul”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

We went to pay our respects at the 'Golden Temple' on 30 December 2013 and it was a cold day but the sight of Darbar Sahib warmed our souls. We were pleasantly surprised to find warm water being pumped at the place where we wash our feet at the entry to the temple complex. There were many bravehearts - men, women and kids who also took a dip in the chilly waters of the kund, but we just sprinkled some on our heads. Then we visited the sanctum sanctorum and also went upstairs to visit the granth sahib from top. Akal Takht and having the Guru ka langar were also enriching for us. The streamlined operations of the Langar always amazes me. The area around the temple complex is being cleared up and more parking being created which should help decongest this area in the walled city.
