Owner description: I am Gurinder Johal( Social Worker and a guide), working as a guide in Amritsar since 2004. The City which was established by the 4th Guru of the Sikhs is a symbol of the brotherhood, History, Culture and Heritage of Punjab. Come & explore the hidden treasure of Amritsar and know the essence of India. ABOUT HERITAGE WALK:- Heritage walk is a guided tour deep inside the narrow lanes and Bye lanes of the 400 year old city of amritsar. One gets to see Katras, Akharas Bungas, Havelis, and Hatties. The walk takes you back in the time as you witness town planning traditional trade and crafts being Practiced in the same place and in the same manner as has been done for centuries.

I read the information about the heritage walk on TA and called Mr Davinder the day before arriving in Amritsar, big mistake because I should have called when I was planning our visit to Amritsar because he provides you with his in-depth and personal knowledge and attempts to understand and anticipate your requirements and knows exactly what to suggest. He went out of his way to meet us and discover what we would like to do in addition to the heritage tour, which we arranged during our meeting and we managed to make the most of our weekend in Amritsar.

We do not normally take a guide, however due to the fabulous write-ups on Trip Advisor we contacted Davinder-ji. It was definitely the BEST thing we did. We also managed to do a few extra trips; we went to see the "Kushti School" and learnt about Wrestling the Indian way and we went to see a special Sikh camp, how a particular community lives, how they raise/train horses, ride bare-back, and saw the infamous kitchens and tasted the delicious food.

Then we took the heritage tour, a nice slow meandering walk through the old parts of Amritsar, with Davinder-ji telling us lots of anecdotes and information along the way, giving us as much time to photograph and ask questions.

Undoubtedly THE BEST guide we have ever come across.

Cannot recommend Davinder-ji enough, we had a wonderful time in Amritsar and made even better by knowing and sharing this great city with him.

You have NOT visited Amritsar unless you meet Davinder-ji and enjoy a very personal, tailored and wonderful tour.

We enjoyed the Heritage Walk which lead us through the narrow streets of Amritsar and let us discover many places we wouldn't have even notice by walking alone. The guide was very kind and explained us all we wanted to know and we had a tasty kulcha in a small eatery at the end of the walk.

Being a sikh, i have been to amritsar to visit the golden temple a few times. But most visit were short and were only focused in the golden temple area. But this trip that I went recently with my sisters, we had a little more time on our hand, so we decided to take this walking tour.
I was abit skeptical at first, but was highly impressed with our guide Mr. Davinder.
He was pleasant, speaks excellent English and Punjabi, and has great knowledge of the city, history of Amritsar and also Sikhism.
I see the city now in a different way, learned so much more about the city.
We decided to ask him for a tour the next day to other gurudwaras nearby.
A totally must do!!

Amritsar is the cultural capital of Punjab. Its heritage is exquisite, but has been allowed to deteriorate, and lies literally in garbage. nterestingly when the Tourism minister re-inaugaurated the walk, the guide lost his way towards the end of the journey. So he had to take a detour from the specially cleaned up route. Press had a field day on the garbage heaps on the detour. Remove the grime and the wires and the ugly defaced modernity, and this could actaully be a showcase for the region
