We had read about this ceremony on Trip Advisor, it sounded like fun. We discussed it with our guide who was quite familiar with the event, and decided to attend. Our Guide ( Anil Sharma )
took us to the border in time to get good seats ( Go 45 minutes early ) . Take your foreign passport as you will get preferred seating. The Lead up to the border closing is the singing, flag waving and cheerleading. Both side do it !! The day we attended there were about 3,00 on the Pakistan side and about 5,000 on the India side. Each trying to outperform the other. The flag lowering and gate closing is another treat, again be early and enjoy the whole performance. Total time about 1 1/2 hours plus travel from Amritsar ( 45 Minutes to our Hotel ) . We highly recommend our guide, 0091 (9780234705) .

There are no sufficient arrangement to tackle more than 15000-20000 people and not so organised arrangement to see the Pared. Not only me lots people could not see the so called Pared on 9th Feb 2014.

This place had to be visited while in Amritsar. The experience from the gate to the seating area was pretty crowded as was the seating area. There were a lot of people who were there to experience the drill by the army and the flag ceremony. Unfortunately handling a large crowd is not easy because of which the people handling the crowds are mostly very rude. After the ceremony began it was ok. The chanting of the slogans can awaken the feeling of patriotism in most people.
The only reason for 4 stars is the ladies with us who had a great time as they managed to get good seats and were able to participate in a few of the activities that are carried at the border.
If you want to visit the place make sure you reach there ahead of time as the seats are of main importance while visiting.

There are no words to describe this. Please go and experience it. You will never forget it. I have never ever felt so patriotic. As an Indian my heart went out to all the Jawans who work day and night to guard our country

Wagah border was high on our itinerary when we planned our Amritsar trip and it was worthwhile every second we spent there. The ceremony is nothing much to describe but the loud patriotic songs from hindi films playing on the high wattage sound system and the outstanding display of patriotic feeling coupled with dance and shouting patriotic slogans is the real attraction. The mood is electric and the crowd spilling over each other. Still it's a spectacle not to miss and highly recommended. One word of caution here - The security segregates the women and children and seats them separately from the men. I was not aware of this and was separated from wife and kids and could only meet them after the ceremony was over. Be there well in time or you will not get to see and enjoy the spectacle!
