We stayed here a year and a half ago, as well as now, and as is the case with 99.9% of Indian hotels, it just hasn't been kept up. Walls are really dirty, shower curtains are moldy, and the worst is the chemical smell of acetone or polish or *something* that often permeates the halls (and the internal rooms with no windows). Although its location is second to none, it might be worth your while to scout a few other locations if that doesn't sound ok to you. Staff are generally very nice and helpful, though. For your typical Indian hotel, it's totally acceptable; if you're expecting anything more, you might have to sacrifice location and stay somewhere further away. PS--the hot water is super hot!

Room Tip: Anything with a window, preferably on the backside which will be a little quieter.

The location of hotel is its best USP for the hotel. Its located merely 50m from the entrance of Golden temple and is best for travelers coming for darshan at Golden temple.
We had taken 2 deluxe rooms which although were small but neat and clean, Bathrooms were basic but neat and clean with hot water available.

We stayed in this hotel twice, once in Sep 2011, and again, in Sep 2013 mainly because of its proximity to Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple.

One can walk to the temple from the hotel. That's the advantage of this hotel. It is also near Jallianwala Bagh and the market.

Of course, if one is self-driving in his/her own car, which we did, then reaching this hotel is a painful affair. We had to stop at the barricades erected by the police, seek their permission after calling the hotel authorities in my mobile and giving it to the police, who had a chat with the hotel people. Then, I had to drive through the congested lanes and bylanes of the busy market area.

The room was small, but clean.

The location simply can't be beat: a mere 20 yards from the entrance to The Golden Temple and incredible views of the same from the roof. Other than that, however, I can't recommend this hotel given the prices they charge. I stayed there with my mother, and we got the 1st floor "suite" with two queen beds and AC. It had plenty of space (and worn furniture), but we paid about $90 U.S. dollars even after I received a discount. I usually go for cheaper places but didn't this time since my mom was along. The cheaper places I usually stay in felt about the same as this place in terms of cleanliness, bedding, the bathroom, etc., but usually cost around $40 instead of $90. Also note that this hotel has only a limited selection of vegetarian food given its proximity to The Golden Temple and there are no nearby restaurants that are easily accessible. At the end of the day, I would recommend staying somewhere else that is a better value and just wander into Hotel Sapphire and up to the roof to take pictures on your visit to The Golden Temple.

We took 5 Deluxe rooms for one night stay in Sept 2013 last week. I guess the date was 27th Sept. The hotel is just opposite to the Temple, that is the biggest positive. Otherwise, everything is average. Rooms and Toilets were clean. Though, some Deluxe rooms were big in size some were smaller. Same goes for fridge, few of them had fridge, few didn't. Some had Split ACs, some window ACs. Few rooms had seepage too. Overall, I would say value for money. I would prefer staying in this hotel rather than staying in a more luxurious hotel which is a mile away.

Room Tip: I would recommend to see a room before booking it.

I stayed in the hotel on 14th Sep 2013 with family. I took a Super Deluxe Suit.

The best part of this hotel is its proximity to temple. Considering the nearby hotels, this is a very good place to stay.

The only bad part......Breakfast only starts at 9.30! So be prepared to eat outside if you are a person eating early which most of us are.

Room Tip: Very Close to Temple
