No complaints on our 3 day stay at the Hyatt in Amritsar. It was a blessing being just outside the city center away from the traffic jams and narrow streets.
It's amazing given how symbolic a city Amritsar is to the Sikhs that so many streets in the city are not tar sealed or asphalt but remain dirt roads. Shocking! Half the time you get to the golden temple covered in dust from the 1km walk from the main street!
The Hyatt is next to a mall so there are options as far as some basic shopping and meals. There is a supermarket in the basement of the mall as well.
The hotel itself is good. It was originally a different hotel but has been taken over by the Hyatt. Staff are friendly and do their best. Rooms are sufficient. And the breakfast is....okey but nothing great. The big problem the hotel has at breakfast is in sufficient staff to handle individual orders and to keep the buffet carts filled. Too many chefs are stuck at individual stations instead of being in the kitchen and they are short of 2-4 waiters to deal with the busy morning crowd in the breakfast hall.
I didn't try the pool or the spa. I was told to come back for a massage and the guy at the counter appeared to be new, nervous and could not speak english so can't comment on the services at the spa.
I would certainly stay at the hotel again. Security is tight as expected and the concierge and bell boys excellent.
I would not say the this hotel is a 5 star hotel but probably somewhere in the 4 star range.
Prices for rooms were also reasonable in contrast to international Hyatt room rates.
