Description: In a city steeped in tradition, from its historic buildings to the commercial activities, there is only one family owned restaurant that has endured for 80 incredible, edible years. Crystal Restaurant opened its doors in Amritsar in 1935. Crystal's authentic brand of multi cuisine cooking became a staple in the city, and has continued in their tradition spanning more than three generations. Crystal has also served many beloved stars from Bollywood, sports, business and society. Today, Crystal has remained an iconic family owned and operated business, where friends regularly come to enjoy tasty sumptuous meals, celebrate a special occasion or share in a romantic evening out in our cozy, inviting restaurant & lounge. The sophisticated yet intimate ambience is just a prelude to the pleasures of the exquisite cuisine complimented by extensive and carefully selected wine cellar.

When you enter, you notice how luxurious this restaurant looks... Then you may start thinking... Right, this is where foreigners eat, probably serve "bad tourists food".

Oh boy, I was wrong. The food was really tasty! And big servings too. For 3 persons, we ordered tandoori chicken, butter chicken, cottage cheese, fish curry, plain naan. Plus ordered beer. Yes, we over ordered. Should have just get 3 dishes. Couldn't finish the food.

Note: Butter chicken was really good. Cottage cheese serving is way too much.

There are actually two versions of this restaurant – one upstairs and one at street level, due to a family feud. And there seems to be no reconciliation in sight, judging from the assertiveness with which the ground floor restaurant claims to be the only genuine one. This is the version we went to.
The food is great. We had a very good mixed tandoori, the best fish biryani I ever tasted, and one of the best mutton rogan josh ever. I also ate a lovely dish with vegetables in nut sauce of which I forget the name (try it, look for the description on the menu), really good massala pappar (crunchy bread reinvented), and the famed Amritsari nan, basically nan bread with small toppings.
In too many Indian restaurants the 1001 spices melt into one all too heavy taste, but here you discover multiple tastes in your dish – and that makes eating at Crystal truly exceptional.
Service is efficient and very friendly. By the way, every tuesday a local ladies club has its numbers game here, so between 1 and 2 pm you'll have to put up with a lady reading out numbers with a stentorian voice. We found it hilarious actually and they started eating themselves soon enough. Nalthough this may be the best restaurant in Amritsar, it’s not cheap: we paid 1000 rupees each for a very filling meal. It’s very popular in Amritsar so come early or call in advance.

The restaurant is nice. I went alone and spent around 1200 Rs (22 USD) and food was really good, but that is very pricy for the Indian standard.

If you want to go for a cheaper deal, they have also a counter of food for take-away and some tables outdoor to eat standing. It's a good alternative and the experience will be more authentic if you are the traveller looking for its "Indian adventure". If you don't want adventure and enjoy the luxury restaurants, you better go inside.

Excellent Punjabi food! Good ambience and at very reasonable prices. We had 3 dishes (vegetarian) with a mixed bread basket and tea. The entire bill was about Rs1350.00.
