“You´ll understand the basis of Hinduism”

My husband and I took a trip to elephanta caves through this travel agency in Mumbai: CAPER TRAVEL, http://caper.travel http://www.capertravelindia.com It was perfect!!! We took a private tour, the guide really good, he was born in the Elephanta island, good speech, good quality of information. We made all the payments by internet from home and everything went perfect. The boat trip from Mumbai to Elephanta caves starts at India gate, it´s very messy and lots of people don´t speak any english, it´s hard to see the price of the tickets, it´s very noisy and confusing, it´s much better to go like us with a guide. The boat is the average in India, don´t get shocked. Don´t eat at the boat, take your own bottled water. Inside the boat it is allowed to take pics even there are warnings against taking pictures. In Elephanta caves you have to pay 20 indian rupees to use a video camera. Inside the caves take the shots with no flash, you will have better pics.

“Not quite worth the money”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

Basicly is just some big holes in the walls. You pay 250 for entrance and 130 for the boat. And it takes you at least half a day.
Without a guide who you have to pay 250 more you will not have any clue about the things there.

The best part were the monkeys. Thou they were quite agressiv and jumped on an old lady, she feel and started crying. So keep distance!!

“Ok Place. Good be made much better”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

I went to the caves with my family in January. The ferry ride started from Gateway of India and was the best part of the trip. The caves itself are ok and much more can be done to make the trip more attractive. Most of statues are worth looking at.

On the return trip, the ferry left us at some dockyard for the ferries and not at Gateway of India. Did cause a lot of confusion due to this.

“ELEPHANTA CAVES - ONE OF THE GEMS IN INDIA”
Reviewed January 26, 2012

Very clean and peaceful relative to Mumbai, highly recommended, I can see why it is a World Heritage Site. Be nice to take have a picnic there, just be careful of the monkeys! Have to walk up some stairs but they are lined with stalls which makes the climb more leisurely, if you do struggle can hire people to carry you up.

“Island escape”
Reviewed January 24, 2012

Loved the ride out across the bay and the approach up to the caves. Main cave is stunning and very atmospheric. Hundreds of people there and a great glimpse of indian families on a day out.
