Not often you meed genuine hosts on your travels and this is certainly an exception. Clean crisp linen and very comfortable beds - excellent. Free high speed wifi for those who want to stay connected. Great food and you must try the honey Tommy makes - just excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Back side rooms on the first floor are v.nice.

. I'm very surprised to read the below reviews as staying in Munnar with tomy and his family was one of the highlights of our trip to India!
My husband & I booked the Rose Gardens on TA reviews and we were not dissapointed.
After a very long journey, we arrived late to be greeted by tomy and his son who served us a delicious meal and had stayed up especially to meet us. The rooms are very large and have nice bathrooms and we had our first hot shower if the trip (a week and a half). Not sure what the below reviews are on about re showers as we always had hot water.
The next day tomy took us to a tea plantation and we swam in a lake - was so amazing! Then he showed us around his garden which is large and he explained all the uses of plants. Being a keen gardener I loved this part. After helping (well watching) rajee make dinner we had a delicious meal where the whole family are very attentive!
The food is amazing, the hosts are the best we've had so far in India- nothing is too much trouble.
Tomy, his wife and lovely children make you feel so welcome, I felt rather sad leaving!
Munnar is breathtakingly beautiful!!
I would recommend this a million percent!

Our 3 night stay at Rose Garden Homestay in Munnar very disappointing. The rooms were clean and adequate. The gardens are also good and the tour around was very interesting. The hosts ,tomee and Ranjee and their family were vry hospitable . However there were no Tea & Coffee making facilities in the room, which is a standard we have come to expect when staying at a hotel or B and B. Most days we had to shower in cold water, as there'was no hot water available, despite mentioning this to the host. I understand a new system is on order. The system of power to the rooms was also a bit intriguing and it was quite common for the power outages to occue and the backup was not sufficient. The towels were never changed or the rooms made up. Breakfast was mainly very sweet and no savouy preparations were presented. Our hosts were very hospitable and because of its location, it was preferable to have dinner In house . Rajeev was very kind in demonstrating how to make cahpatteys and her chicken and vegetarian dishes were very good. Eating at a communal table is an excellent way for guests to meet and compare notes of the events of the day.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms upstairs. The views and light is great

Going on this as a Lonely Planet top pick, we were quite disappointed. This place costs way too much for what it is (and seeing rates nearly doubled from 2500 RP to 4k RP in a year). Our first room was in the dark basement area with no views except for jungle. Moved upstairs the 2nd night which was better, slight view over the trees, more light. Rooms are sparse with no amenities. Hot water takes about 15 minutes. Remote location so you really do need a car/driver. our driver (like another reviewer) was not happy with this place and also slept in the car overnight. Free Wifi a plus. No A/C (not needed at night and i asked for an extra blanket). The owner does have a small garden which is quaint and he is keen to show guests but it's nothing super special. We did not find meals to be anything to write home about. my husband left hungry from breakfast - i was too sick from dinner the night before (which other guests found too spicy and could barely eat) and ended up in the hospital getting a glucose IV after throwing up and passing out. To the owner's credit, they did not charge us extra for dinner which is another point. you are basically captive with no food options near by, and given the room rates, dinner really should be included. The owners are lovely and were sympathetic to my condition and did check on me. However i could not recommend this place even if i did not get sick from the food. This is not the value it may have once been and we found nothing special. Truly one of our most disappointing stays in India.

Room Tip: ask for a room on upper floor in the back.

Rosegardens Homestay is beautifully set in colourful gardens where owner Tomee grows all his own spices, plus coffee & honey, and lots of different vegetables and fruits. The food cooked by Rajee is therefore fresh & delicious and we enjoyed communal meals with the other guests around a large, sociable table. The hosts are very friendly and helpful; the rooms are basic - as with all homestays, do not expect daily cleaning or linen changes (better for the environment anyway!) - but they are very clean and comfortable, and surprisingly for India, we had hot showers every time. If booking ahead, you could ask for a room at the back of the house so you can enjoy the terrace that looks out over the garden, although all rooms do have an outside area with comfy chairs. Wi-fi is provided, and you can assist Rajee in preparing the meals, if you are interested in seeing how authentic Keralan dishes are prepared. Rosegardens is situated a short taxi ride outside of Munnar by about 10km, but this is not a problem as the town doesn't have loads of appeal and you're better off being out in the greenery instead. Buses pass by regularly that can take you to Munnar or down back to Kochi... We really enjoyed our stay here, and have already recommended it to fellow travellers!

Rose Gardens is set in Tomee's beautiful spice garden (where he makes his own coffee) on the side of the mountain about 10km from Munnar.. You'll get the full tour of the spice garden at some point in your stay and it's well worth it. As only our second experience of a homestay, we didn't know what the deal would be with food, so it was a pleasure to be served a fantastic evening meal with the other guests on both nights of our stay. The food was beautiful and we even had a lesson in making chappatis. Waking up in the morning and sitting on a veranda surrounded by trees and spices was a lovely way to start the day. They also gave our driver a room to sleep in. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to this part of the world.

We stayed at Rose Gardens for 3 nights as a party of 6, taking up 3 rooms. We had heard great reviews on trip advisor and lonely planet but were all very disappointed. We had travelled for 3 weeks in India and so had a fair idea of what a 3800rupee room could get you. The hot water was sparse and so we had several cold showers. The beds were not made up nor were the towels changed so after 3 days we were drying ourselves with wet, mouldy towels (after a cold shower). There is no backup generator, but regular power outages. It seems the custom in Munnar, being more isolated, that the drivers are usually put up for the night in a small separate room and given a shower and meal. However, (i assume because we hadn't booked the driver through the guest house) he was treated very poorly not given any food and cold water for a shower. He was also told not to park his car on the premises so instead he slept in his car for 3 nights. The dinners were nice, Rajeet and Tommy are lovely hosts and the gardens are glorious but for the money, you could find somewhere much much better.
