Had a great two night stay at Shamrock with my girlfriend. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Couldn't fault the service. Very quick. Breakfast and dinners were of a good standard in terms of quality and quantity. Rooms were fine, clean and well presented. The staff went out of their way to go into town to buy booze for us on the second night. The only downside to the stay were the neighbours (locals) were a little noisy and they burned off one night which meant we were inhaling smoke for about 30 minutes while trying to enjoy the sunset over the mountains. The all in one deal that they offer that included tours, two meals each day was good value for money. Highly recommend the tea plantation tour (2 hrs) and trek to the top of Mount Choccmutty (5 hrs)with guide Babbaou. A very likeable guy, his English wasn't great but friendly and he pointed out loads of bush tucker, e.g. bush tomatoes, lemongrass, wild lemons, coffee plants, orange trees, on the trek up the mountain. Spotted a wild deer at one point and a week before we were there, Babbou said there were elephants in the area. He could have provided a bit more info on the tea plantation tour also. Two nights in Munnar is enough to see everything and have a chilled time.

Really nice food, excellent view over the mountains and teaplantations, very enthusiastic staff (just not the day after New Years eve - but who's that ;-)) Rooms are big and with a panorama view - not too good, but the food and everything else compensates for that.

You don't want to sit in your room all day do you? We stayed at Shamrock one night while we did a bit of trekking in the hills there. It was great. The rooms were nice and clean, we got a great night's sleep, the food was good (and plentiful!) and the staff were happy to help with anything you needed. The best thing about the place was the views from the balcony - fab sunset. And the people in the village down below were fun and very friendly. Finally - The Shamrock is out of Munnar town - good thing too.

Shamrock doesn't look like much when you arrive and indeed, it doesn't have many frills, but this just doesn't matter as the rooms are clean, the view is spectacular from the room's balcony and the service from the small team of staff is friendly and committed. We felt so welcomed from the minute we arrived - we joined a small group and went for a couple of hours' walk down through the nearby tea estate and up through the small village next to Shamrock with a lovely guide who pointed out plants and wildlife to us. Dinner was really excellent - the chefs put a lot of thought into the delicious and authentic Keralan food and it is served by great waiting staff. The view from the outdoor dining area is beautiful. Breakfast was also really good and filled us up for the day with a selection of European and Keralan style food. Great place.

I think this is the only time I have stayed so far out of town, and loved it. Munnar's town centre is a bit of a hole (but great to visit, especially the market), so to come up this beautiful valley and perch at Shamrock is a great thing to do. We had some lovely walks in both directions from Shamrock, and also hired an autorickshaw driver to take us further afield, and fell in love with this part of the world.

Pramod, the manager, was extremely helpful and friendly, and the staff were always looking for ways to make our stay more enjoyable. Breakfast and dinner were of an excellent standard. Munnar's electricity supply is very unreliable, but only failed completely for a couple of minutes, and it wasn't a problem. Associated property Olive Brook is only a few minutes walk further down the road.

It was nice being so close to the neighbouring settlement/village - which was neither noisy nor smelly - and seeing the daily life there. Some people we spoke to found Munnar a bit low octane, and couldn't wait to get away, but we felt the opposite - it is so beautiful, and restful I wish we had stayed at least double our 2 nights there. And like the rest of Kerala, the people are lovely in Munnar.

One place slightly off the beaten track (just a km or 2 past the tea Museum) is the Srishti complex run by Tata, which looks after a few hundred disabled people - very impressive in India... go and have a look, and they also cook and sell some delicious food/pastries.
