After being through a series of family crisis, never ending work pressure, travelling between 3 Indian metros,,,,we were longing for a good vacation to "chill" (our kids would use that term a lot, :-)..)...

We considered many getaway places..nothing seemed to really draw our attention except when a friend who had been recently trekking to Munnar suggested it to us... enquirers were made, search engines were busy, until Ripples N Rocks Homestay popped up!! Bags were packed n we set out.... settling into the wonderful Homestay where we were welcomed with an abundance of warmth was the beginning of a much valued and cherished HOLIDAY and also the will of providence in gifting us a wonderful pair of friends in Mr JK and Madam Priya and their adorable son, Parameswaran!!

It was truly a serendipitous experience, the gushing Muthirapuzha river, the cascading chanting of water, chirping of birds, the greeny green landscapes, sublime mountains, all from our window facing the river!! Oh!! I had to pinch myself!! We couldn't have picked up a better place to stay and laze around, go for long walks, treks, swimming, bike and car rides to near by enchanting Munnar with its amazing Tea estates, waterfalls, animals, and much more....

What actually made our holiday most homely and "HAPPY" was the tender care - looking into our every need, ensuring unbelievable comfort in the rooms, timely services, clean and tidy premises, attentive staff- Our charming hosts, always with a warm smile, looking after us, and the awesome food prepared by Priya ji!! South Indian, North Indian,Continental; mouth watering Kerala delicacies, like an array of chutneys served with Idlis that melts in the mouth, crispy brown dosas, perfectly made vegetable dishes in soft and tender coconut gravy, fish curries and fries that tantalizes your taste buds & the sumptuous Thali Meals, all served with such care, poise and grace!!

On one hand we felt like royalty and on the other hand, we were touched so deeply and naturally noticed, acknowledged and reciprocated the warmth and love of this beautiful family!!

Our host JK was always ready to give us guidance to the whole trip, organising the logistics, and ensuring we were safe and making the best of our time in Munnar at Ripples N Rocks Homestay. He is well read, widely traveled and shared valuable insight into the geo-socio-cultural history of the place in his eloquent mode of articulation.

We were never so pampered in our entire lives, such was the experience at RnR!!!

We left on the 4th day feeling rejuvenated from the sublime experience, with much love and joy shared with the place and our unique hosts.

And, for SURE we have already made arrangements for our next trip during the DIWALI holidays!!!!

Room Tip: all rooms are well placed, the room facing the river is what we liked.

This is definetely a better place to stay in munnar. We stayed couple of nights here and it was Truely memorable.
Few things touched my heart :
1) My Mom is pure vegeterian so Home Made Food prepared by Mrs. Priya was accroding to that and of a top class quality. My dad was given diabetic food.
2) My nephew was taken care of Mrs Priya, even she packed the milk for him during our visit in Munnar.
Hospitality of Jai/Priya was truely exceptional, I definetly recommend this place if you love the nature.

Not being conversant in Malayalam, it took a lot of calling, checking with friendly locals who when asked "Ellackal?" respond with a pointed hand - there. There was the road from Munnar leading to Kunjithanny and then to Ellackal, mostly covered in dense monsoon clouds. Soon, enough we emerged below the clouds 16 kms from Munnar, lower in altitude, a pleasant 18 degree celsius, and the sound of a roaring river. Our vehicle windows are rarely down, but here the mountain air was crisp and we preferred that to the cars climate control. Just outside the homestay, the sound of a river flowing over a small cement structure used by locals to cross the river, was deafening. The rest of the stay just rushed past, and we didnt budge from the place except for short walks into the friendly neighbour's tea garden, rubber, spice and believe me - cocoa plantation. 200m from Ripples was a confluence of the Muthirapuzha river and Uppar river. Apparently, the locals say the Uppar river is derived from 'uppu' or salt and the salty water ( I assume mountain salts) was something herds of elephants and Indian bison developed a taste for. The British who discovered this before Indian tourists called this area Bison valley. The story is that early settlers and indigenous tribals (no trace of them today, I am told) used to shelter in tall trees to avoid conflict with elephants, gaur and tiger. Sadly, there are hardly any of the original trees left as they were chopped to give way to rubber and silver oak etc., a source of local income from plantations. Nevertheless, the place is incredibly green. Most of all the stay in this wildly green place was made memorable by our hosts JK and his family who also live here for part of the year. The food prepared was to our exact specification and they went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed the food. The 'ulli thiel' was outstanding. So were the appams and curries. Being vegetarians, we simply loved the variety and flavours of vegetables prepared for us. My family and I stayed at Ripples N Rock in Aug around 17th 2012 for three days. It was far better than the usual hotels we stay. I think the department of tourism's Diamond rating (which is how I first discovered this place) for this homestay is indeed well, deserved.

Room Tip: The rooms are of pleasant, very local, colorful decor. However, the reason to be here is for the sur...

This was our second stay at Ripples n Rocks within a span of 8 months and I guess this was just the right time of the year too, with the monsoons bringing alive the irresistible smell of lush greenery and wet earth !! JK and family [they are the owners ] were at their hospitable best once again and [I'll let out a lil secret] Mrs.Priya cooks some awesome delicacies and it only seems to get better and better, we ate our hearts out !!!
The best part of this resort is also its location, right on the banks of a meandering river and if you are the intense or brooding type, the fun type or even the romantic type, the beautiful evenings spent beside the gurgling river will leave you spellbound for sure.
So if you're thinking Munnar, hoping to find a hotel/resort that is located away from all the hustle and bustle, yet not so remote, looking for a clean and quiet place to spend some unforgettable moments, wanting to feel at home [well, thats precisely what the JKs do and something that really touched us], don't waste time looking elsewhere, just head straight to Ripples n Rocks and Oh ! next time we are gonna land with all our friends too !!!

Room Tip: All rooms are river facing, the ones on top are the best !!

We 3 couples and 1 kid Went on June 1 st week to ripple n rocks for a honey moon trip. It was an half n hour drive from munnar and the home stay is situated in a beautiful place i have never Experienced such a beautiful place like that. It is completely in a river bed where i just got down from the car and was keep looking the river for 20 min. After that only i talked to Ms. priya whom i was contacting for the whole trip and i talked with Mr. Jayakrishnan who gave a detailed explanation about the place, about the surroundings, about the muthirapulzha river, about the food timing etc which we wont be getting if we visit any other place. I arranged the whole trip as a package were ms. priya only booked the whole arrangement which was completely Excellent.
We stayed 2 nights over there and we enjoyed the surroundings of that home stay. Both Mr ans Mrs Jayakrishnan gave us Excellent hospitality, food and even they made us to visit the nearby places were the water origins, the canal and spices which are growing nearby the home stay, Tea estate. We enjoyed 2 nights completely and we left the Kumarakkom Boat house which Ms. priya only booked. That boat house was very pleasant and neat also.

TheKerala trip with my family was so much of memorable experience. Beaches, backwaters, house boats and the most impressive, the stay at Ripplesnrocks home stay, Munnar, in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Westayed there for 5 days parents, wife and kids. The ambience was softening andthe host Mr.Jayakrishnan was so cordial. Fantastic valley, fascinating Muthirapuzha River, the spice expanses, camp fire, Village walks.

The food, all home cooked was something whichshould not be forgotten. The only problem with jayakrishnan and family was thatthey never leave you from the dining space without finishing each and everydish served. Priya brings bowl after bowls with variety Kerala cuisines.

Therooms are well maintained with Modern clean Bathrooms. All the rooms were riverfacing with balconies, bright and breezy, where we sat for hours, chatting andreading. The trekking up and downRipplesnrocks home stay, talking to local people and farmers, sipping spice teafrom village shops, fishing, meditation and yoga on the rocks in the river weresomething which won’t go away from our hearts forever.

Jayakrishnan, his wife priya and their son JK junior as we called him, were always smilingand good-humoured. They were kind enough to take us to the Mother Marys Church nearbywhere the yearly festival and mass were going on. We could watch the fire workof the church sitting on the Ripplesnrocks lawn which lasted for 3 hours.

It’sworth staying there. Value for money and time. We recommend this home stay asplace you will always want to come back .

Munnar’s beauty lies not in its exterior, but in virgin patches hidden from the regular travelers… Muthirapuzha river and its vicinity is one such place where serenity fills your senses… Me and my wife checked in at Ripples N Rocks home stay, perched right on the banks of Muthirapuzha river… JK, as expected was in his jovial best (we had good conversations about the place over phone and emails) and our day began with a fresh cup of cardamom tea offered by the graceful hostess Priya Jayakrishnan … The best part of sipping my cuppa was gazing at the delightfully swelling river…

Priya's culinary skills with a touch of spice was adding to the lunch… but, we being wanderers, decided to head out after lunch and JK guided us to the age old Muniyaras (dolmens made of large stones with a stone roof used by sages to meditate!) its a cool trekking distance from RnR! It was a true one on one with history, a Nat Geo moment coming out live… pretty much into the wilderness we ventured, savoring the ecstasy of exploration and being free… upon return we were again surprised by both JK and Priya with a dinner, which cannot be described as exclusive, but grand! Kerala delicacies like spicy fish curry were spread out for us and served with heartfelt laughter and discussions … This is where I felt I am at home… Ripples N Rocks with its pleasant hospitality made us ‘stay at home’… It’s not a home stay, but a true home for all those who long for home even while vacationing… Cheers JK for the lovely days and be warned, we will be back :)
