There couldn't be a better quick-peek showcase for traditional classical arts from the local culture. This should be default part of all travel itineraries to Munnar. Both the Kathakali and Kalari shows are explained in English and a bit of Hindi. All the artistes are good. Special mention of the vocal artiste in the Kathakali show and the football jump and flexibility artistes in Kalari.

This would have got one more star if they improve the seating a bit for both shows and lower the overall sound a bit for the Kathakali show. But these lacunae are minor enough to be ignored, you will still enjoy the shows.

Unless you aren't interested in traditional arts at all, or are skilled at them yourself, both the shows are likely to mesmerise you.

Excellent attempt to show-cause the culture.
Equally enjoyed the Kathakali and Kalariyapattu.
The best of the lot was the photographs with the artistes after the show.

We had booked the 1 hour Kathakali show @ Punarjani. The performers wore some old dirty clothes. The hall was small, clumsy with no elevation for any of the seats. the audience in the back could not even get the stage view. All in all, not a good experience at all.
