Loved everything about this retreat - the rooms are gorgeous and have terraces that look out over the hills, waking up here is literally like being in paradise. The home cooked food is delicious and complimentary afternoon tea a nice treat. Morning yoga is practiced in an open sided cabin set amongst the hills with the most beautiful view, no better way to start your morning. Our favourite place we stayed of all of our accommodation in Kerala, don't hesitate to book.

Situated in the hills surrounding Munnar and requiring a 4x4 to transfer you to the resort from the main road down steep narrow roads Kaivalyam is a fantastic place to retreat and unwind. The scenery surrounding, which is ever present through large windows in the rooms and dining hall, is breath taking and highlights the natural beauty of the area. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and informed us of the activities in offer in the retreat and also locally. There was large choice of traditional South Indian vegetarian food for both lunch and dinner which tasted delicious and was very reasonably priced. The morning Yoga sessions were conducted in a open sided pavilion which afforded views of the surrounding hill sides and were conducted in the early morning cool before the heat set in. Harish's instructional style was detailed and clear and the sessions were accessible for all levels. The rooms were clean and well maintained with a patio looking out across the valley through the trees. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I was in Kaivalyam along with my family for three nights from 29/03/2014. Harish / Anju, an engineer, yoga - certified couple manage the place. First the context - reviews on portals like tripadvisor helps managements get feedback for improvement. There were some nasty reviews on this property. I jotted my list of questions and called Harish. I liked that he addressed the questions that was troubling me, without any prodding and let me know very clearly what to expect - steep descent / climb; no non - veg or drinks on property etc. He communicated that in writing. He made it abundantly clear that if we were there to make a mess, then we better stay away from Kaivalyam. It is always better to know what to expect upfront. They have maintained the place excellently - very clean rooms; unlike my experience in many star hotels also, the sheets were not smelling; the hygiene was focused on western travelers and most importantly the food was not extremely spicy. My daughter who is fussy about bathrooms and food thanked the chefs and that actually made my day. The plantation walk is good inclusion. My mother - in - law, wife and children, who do yoga had a great time at their fitness center. I am finding it difficult to record any negatives - only that it would be great if they can have their lady Malyali cook come in afternoons also. I hope that they can maintain the property in the same manner. I am recommending this place to everyone.

Room Tip: Try the tree house. It would be wonderful. Even otherwise, they have just 8 rooms and everything app...

We had an amazing two night stay at the retreat. It's located in a stunning location, and the pictures don't do it justice! It was so quiet and peaceful, and the perfect getaway for city dwellers. The rooms were very neat and clean, and the food was really "homey" and extremely affordable. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning yoga and the hikes. The service was fantastic, and the owner and staff were ready to help us out with anything we needed. I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else in Munnar!

My husband Anand Soni and me were here a week ago for 5 days and we could not get enough of the place, we did only 1 day sight seeing & we spent a good amount of our time outdoors in the retreat feeling the resort, doing yoga & meditation, reading other than noon if it was too sunny. This is so far the best & closest I felt to nature, in its own natural beauty and serenity it lies and one has to connect to feel it and enjoy it. You need to spend time at the resort and experience it, its not a place for stop by & move surely, that's like really a no no. The owner MR Harish is very friendly and a nice human being, the staff is helpful & food we being vegetarian is awesome. The water stream & spice tour is amazing. There is good security at night with a guard there at all times fully awake. We will surely be here again as for us Munnar=Kaivalyam & we are glad we ended up in this comfortable, well made nature resort rather than any other super luxury place.

Room Tip: The upper rooms have a better view for sure

My daughter and I visited for two nights, but extended to three, as we loved the retreat as well as the stunning surrounding spice and tea plantations.we took part in the free yoga sessions which we really enjoyed. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and of a very good standard. The food was simply delicious and the staff were not only friendly, but most helpful. We would really recommend a holiday here.

Just back from munnar today, but still the hangover is going on. The credit goes to KAIVALYAM RETREAT.A really nice peaceful superb place amidst nature. Very well behaved and nice persons are running the place we must admit.
ROOMS: all rooms are having good views. But staying at tree house is totally different experience. Recommended for couples who want quality time and privacy. No need to worry about room condition, bathroom etc. Everything will be above expectation within that price range.
FOOD: Food is veg totally but the taste is just awesome. From soup to desert you will not regret about not having non-veg.
ATMOSPHERE: Just spellbound. If you even do not want to go for sightseeing you can just seat on the seating decks and enjoy the nature all day. The hotel is in a spice firm so you can go for a guided tour with hotel representative in the plantation but if you are walking till the river side, carry water bottle as you have to come up from down. Also can go for a walk in tea garden .Talk to hotel representative. They will help you with that.
