JJ Cottage was a great place to stay, in fact we were so comfy we stayed 8 days. We had the top room which was larger than the others and had a great view, sill a great price. Very warm and cosy beds, wonderful hot water, and quiet yet with interesting day to day activity in the street below. Very warm and helpful owners. Ask about the Bison Valley Road walk, it is great!

I stayed two nights in November 2011, my room was clean comfortable and had that rarest of luxuries in India endless hot water. The property is a basic budget venue but very comfortable, situated conveniently close to the bus station. The owners are helpful and obliging and the hotel is a comfortable and very economic base for touring the area. Accomodation is expensive in Munnar and JJs is incredible value for money.

Great Hotel based just outside of the main town and depending on room you will get "some" views of the tea plantations. Room had bih#ggest bed we have seen, cable tv and hot water. They had extensive book exchange including guidebooks. Owners were friendly and arranged a rickshaw for full day tour of tea plantations, factory, dam, hill station which was fantastic! It was everything in one trip and only 800 rupees. We would definately recommend this hotel. Many thanks

We had a reservation and after a long and arduous journey to the frightfully busy Munnar, we arrived to find our room was given to somebody else. The reason, they shouted, was because we didn't arrive by 5pm and as we "haven't pay a rupee", why would we expect to still have our room. We actually rang that morning to double confirm the booking but alas, this agreement was reneaged. They then tried to send us to their next door neighbour who was charging double and only had hot water for three hours per day. We then had to wander the streets with our luggage at night to find somewhere else. They insisted, in an overly aggressive way, that the problem was not their's but our's as we didn't make the deadline (we had no prior knowledge of any deadline) and did nothing to solve the issue. The place looked terrible anyway so I actually think we got lucky. It was the last thing you need after a long trip. Stay at the nearby smm cottage. Much better and friendlier.

Delightful budget hotel in the lower part of Old Munnar, just off the busy main street. Wonderful family who manages and assists with all your transport and tour needs. We had the big, bright 2nd floor room with a super bed and extra seating, very nice. The TV is very small, poor channel selections, but getting out of the room is probably your main goal as a tourist to Munnar. Just behind is a 4* with good buffet meals. Down the street don't miss the SN Restaurant for dependable Indian food. You can just walk up the little street and head up into a tea plantation for a delightful stroll, just beautiful. The hotel looks out into the valley and neighboring hills.

Room Tip: One especially big, bright room, other rooms are totally adequate, but without the view. Small sitt...

We'd booked ahead at JJ Cottage and had been told that there were a choice of rooms available, but when we turned up, we had to wait 45 minutes for "our room" to be cleaned. This turned out to be the most expensive room at the top. This room was rather odd, almost like a conservatory perched on top of the hotel. The walls were glass, and you had to ensure all the curtains were drawn so nobody could peek in. The decor was odd - tiles with cowboys on them and the like. We found it cold and noisy due to the rain, and didn't sleep well because it felt like we were in a fishbowl.

It was a very clean hotel, and probably the cheaper rooms were less unusual and are better value, but we never got a chance to make a choice.

The location was ok if you wanted to stay near the town, but there's not much to do in the evening there, so you might be better off staying in a homestay where it's more relaxing in the evenings.

Room Tip: Avoid the expensive room on the top!!!

Its not exactly a cottage. but it did not disappoint me at all since the management is very warm and friendly. I loved my room. Spotless clean room n toilet. Smells great too. I cant remember anything unpleasant abt the stay. The lodge is not too near to the town center, but I think thats the best side of it not being in the noisy area. Value for my money.
