Munnar is a natural beauty so it was easy to select this place for our honeymoon. Booking was made by one of our friend. Upon arrival in the afternoon we were greeted by the management, quickly checked in. Management (Simi & children) was great and service staff were also good.
It is located in the mountain backdrop offering complete privacy and is ideal for either relaxation or romance.. We had lunch there - traditional kerala style food, good taste. We decided to rest and enjoy the scenery. The estate is spread to several acres of land with lots of plantations, flowers etc.
Next morning we had breakfast, mixture of western and kerala foods but taste was great. The dining hall is hut style, very pleasant and enjoyable.
There are several tourist attractions close to this place so we had a very good time.
Price is reasonable and offers better value compared to many others here.
The owner is a former doctor and Simi herself has been a management professional. Cottages are not their main source of money. Service staff are very few. So if you are expecting a 24hr room service, gym, broadband, conference hall etc this may not be a place for you. However, if you want a lovely place, friendly & homely service and privacy then this is the place for you.
From Munnar we went to alapuzha and kochi. Backwater - boat staying was another nice experience.

The unmade road caused us some concern about what we would find on arrival. However we were warmly greated by Raj the owner who welcomed us to his family
cardamon estate. The cottages are beautiful with the most amazing views of the hills around Munnar. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

The chef was away and the food suffered as a result. On arrival after a long journey it took half an hour to get inedible sandwiches, and at dinner both nights the soup was insipid and the rest of the meal just passable. The service during the meals was slow and indifferent. To her credit Simi did not charge us for any food.
The rooms were very nice and comfortable with great views. In our bathroom the sink waste wasn't properly connected and would cause a minor flood with anything more than a trickle of water.

The hosts were charming. The host is a former doctor whose family owned this Cardamom Estate and he now runs it with his wife. Their two small chidlren were delightful

The accommoation in individual little villas was superb. The open plan lounge/ bedroom opened out to the most amazing views. It was spotlessly clean and spacious. The super king sized bed was very comfortable. Home cooked meals were served in a building made entirely by hand from local materials. As I have a chilli allergy, eating in India is very difficult. but the owner prepared a special dish for me without chillis.

The views from this estate are fabulous and the gardens full of wonderful flowering bushes. It is a bird spotters paradise. The only disappointment was that we anticipated seeing cardamoms growing, but were not offered access to where they were. As we were only there for one night, we did not have time to sit out in the gardens but one omission is that there is no outdoor furniture and the location was crying out for a place to have a "sundowner " outside the villa.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Ambady Estate in Munnar whilst on our honeymoon in November of 2009. I have stayed in resorts and hotels all over the world, but this place was something special. Perhaps it was the season in which we went, when the air up on the hill tops where the resort resides, was fresh, moist and misty - almost dream-like. Our reality was transformed from the hussle bussle of big city life to the peace and serenity of natural beauty at its best.

The cottage in which we stayed was huge, with a high ceiling and a wonderful multi-level room layout. The room was very clean and beautifully lit. The bathroom too was exceptionally clean and featured scented soaps.

Breakfast and lunch was included in our package. Although we did not get a choice of foods like you would at a normal restaurant, the items in the set menu were finger-licking good! As we were there for 2 nights, our set dinner menu was different for both evenings. The food was plentiful!

Like that wasn't enough, we were treated like royalty by the staff at the estate! Personally, I have never experienced such kind people that are willing to go completely out of their way to make your stay not only comfortable, but flawless! On our last day, one of the staff members took us on a tour of the estate. We saw ginger plants, cardamom, black pepper, white pepper, coffee and probably a few other variety of spices and shrubbery I'm forgetting. Everything there was organic we were told, and grew without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Having said all that, it may seem like I'm a member of Dr. Rajesh (the owner's) family! I assure you, I am not! :) I am only an extremely satisfied patron of his, and I know my partner would wholeheartedly concur.

Thank you!

The resort is nice located 10 kms before Munnar town. There is a small board at the entrance and can be missed. The cottages are located at a distance from the entrance and the drive is pretty steep but doable. The place is nicely maintained and the cottages are absolutely fantastic. The owner informed us that they dining area is a temporary one and they plan on setting up a restaurant and pool and the site has already been identified. The view from this was much better then what we had from our cottages. By the way, the view from lawns in front of the cottage was wonderful.

The food could have been better. The service was good mostly due to Mathews who took special care of us as we were the only guest during our stay. He took us into the cardamom plantation and it was a nice experience. The price for tea/coffee was exorbitant but they have provision for making tea/coffee in the room.

Some More Good & Bad Experience:
1) We canceled the reservation for 1 of the 3 rooms on arrival without any charges.
2) The extra bed provided was comfortable but the charges were quite high for it.
3) We were given some small complimentary cardamom packs on check-out.
4) The price for retailing the cardamom was much higher then what they sell in the wholesale market.

We visited the Munnar area as part of our tour of Kerala. During our visit we spent two nights at the Ambady Estate. The Ambady Estate is a small family run plantation a few kilometres outside of Munnar. Its quite small and only has 8 guest rooms.

The owner met us on arrival and treated us both to a cup of hot sweet cardomom tea. I don't usually like tea or cardomoms, but this was delicious. You will need to get used to the taste of cardomoms as everything includes them in Kerala. Tea, curry, fruit juice, ice cream, everything!

Despite the small size of the place, the rooms were absolutely fantastic and were probably the best we stayed in during our visit to India. The room was on multiple levels with a raised sitting area, a raised balcony area and a bedroom area with a very high ceiling. Our room had an amazing view out across the valley.

There were only a few staff at the Ambady Estate and the manager certainly worked hard for his wages! He showed us to our room, served us for breakfast, lunch and dinner (on full board) and also helped us with our bags when we left.

The dining room was odd. It was like a scout hut with just five tables in it. As there were so few guests, we were the only ones in there most of the time. Although the dining room was fine, it was very different from the superb bedrooms.

The food was excellent and there was always a good selection. Salad, mushroom curry, potato and cumins, fried fish, spinach dal, nut rice, chiapatas and fruit salad - and that was just lunch! As its a small place you get whatever is served, no menu here. The portions were huge and we felt bad leaving so much food every time.

The only negative points were the frequent power outages, although this didn't really cause any problems, and the food wasn't always as warm as it could have been.

Overall, a real gem of a place and we would definately stay here again.
