This waterfall is also called "Attukadu waterfalls". It is about 1 to 1.5 km from Aranyaka resort, Munnar. Since we stayed at the resort, we decided to trek down to the falls one morning. After a good breakfast, we walked down on the road and after a while decided to go through the tea bushes. Since our goal was not to only "reaching the waterfalls", we went slowly. There are quite a few view points and every corner is a bird-watcher's heaven. There are quite a few species of birds-the malabar whistling thrush, black bulbul, hill myna, yellow browed bulbul, Indian scimitar babbler etc. So armed with our binoculars and camera, we had a wonderful time. In about 45 minutes, we reached a wooden bridge and on crossing that, we came to a point where the falls could be viewed from the bottom. At this place, there is a small shop/house. The owner sells tea, juice, bread omelette and maggi noodles. He also offers the use of a toilet (paid). He has made sure that he does not sell cigarettes or alcohol and is very happy with his little corner of heaven.
As we walk down, the falls appear and disappear and it is beautiful to watch. There was water but we were told that it is much more during the rainy season. When there are no other people around, it is really peaceful and beautiful.
You can also drive down to the place and it only takes about 10 minutes from Aranyaka. The walk back to the resort was a little tougher since we had to walk uphill. It is a little tough on the knees if you are a "plains" person (as opposed to a "hills" person)!
