“Great place to stay, sleep, eat & relax”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

The two of us stayed 3 nights at Anil & Jeeva's homestay (patioroom) and we highly recomm end their lovely home to anyone looking for an excellent retreat with gracious hosts where you can really relax. Not only was the room just right (and very clean), the food just perfect for everyone's taste (Jeeva will ask every time how spicy you'd like it and Alphonsa will look after you - you never run low on coffee, food, towels etc.). The hosts were simply the loveliest ones we met during our 2 weeks of travelling Kerala state (and we met quite a few). We had a wonderful time at the homestay, started into the day with tasty Keralan breakfast and Anil arranged in a very uncomplicated manner cabs or rikshaws so we could easily explore the fascinating surroundings, we have never seen so many shades of greens. Moreover, Anil gave us perfect advice how to avoid the crowds of tourists who crawl up the hills around noon - just get up the hills in the early morning, and you'll be rewarded with peaceful silence at Top Station and a stunning look on the mountains. Anil might take you for a walk around the area where the house is located, and tell you all about pepper and all those many spices that grow in everyone's backyard. Should we ever return to this part of India, we would for sure see if Anil & Jeeva have a spare room for us. So again a great thank you to you two, Anil and Jeeva, for your generous hospitality and advice how to get around and to you - five points for Royal Mist Munnar!!

A lovely place, and lovely people. This offers perfect relaxation and / or plenty of activity depending on how much time you have. Anil and Jeeva have the balance just right on being attentive hosts and offering you perfect tranquillity and the ability to make the most of beautiful surroundings. Alfonsa also deserves a special mention for her beaming smiles and keeping us topped up with tea, chapatis and pancakes. We only had 2 nights here but could easily have stayed longer. Our room had a TV with many channels on offer but we were way too busy to watch it of course, I thought I’d mention this though as it was the only place out of 5 we stayed in with this on offer – could be useful if someone is bed ridden with a troubled tummy. It’s also the only place we stayed where we took up the offer of evening meals and they were utterly delicious. If we could have stayed longer, maybe we would have been able to go in the kitchen and learn a bit about Keralan cuisine. Breakfast offered different exotic fruits on both mornings, very interesting and appetising. No wonder they’re getting such good reviews all the time, the only thing wrong with this place is that we didn’t stay long enough. Even though when you’re there, you feel as though you’re miles from civilization, we had our driver and there was a nearby village 10 minutes away where we saw the Kathakali and an incredible martial arts display. Plenty of the attractions of Munnar on the 2nd day as well (speedboating / dams, lakes, tea factory not to mention spectacular scenery) and in the evening Anil and his lovely daughter took us for a very interesting short walk in the tea fields. Two words for this place. First class!

Anil and Jeeva are so sweet and kind, we really felt taken care of. The place is indeed basic, but also modern and very clean. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this place to anyone. Munnar is a beautiful place -- not what one would typically think of as "classic kerala" but well worth a visit.

We had previously stayed at Royal Mist in October 2010. That year, the monsoon was running a bit behind schedule. However, the welcome and kindness given by Anil and Jeeva more than made up for any shortcomings of the weather of the time.
Fast forward to November 2012 - no late monsoon this time! We were VERY eager to return and indeed, spent a whole week this time. Yes, we had the same wonderful warm reception by Anil and Jeeva who we had kept in contact with since our first visit. The quality of the stay was much enhanced by the attitude of the hosts, something that is not present in a hotel. This house has a wonderful warm family feel which in turn leads to spiritual relaxation. The wonderful food and in particular, the vegetarian meals were always something we looked forward to as soon as the scent of spices left the kitchen! There were no problems whatsoever, full stop, period!!! I would take issue with those reviewers who only rated Royal Mist as 'average'. These people have missed the whole point of the value of what is so great about well run Homestays in India
Expect us (the Jamaican/ English couple from Devon, UK) to return!!!

The rooms and the facilities are excellent as is the food and hospitality of the hosts. Anyone staying here should take Anil up on his offer to take an evening walk around the area where he will explain the wonderful area in which they live. You are just far enough outside of Munnar to get away from the swarms of other travellers which was a relief for us having just come down from northern India. You are also close enough to reach the other attractions with relative ease. We would highly recommend Royal Mist to our family and friends and would definitely stay there again. Thank you Anil and Jeeva. Btw, Lynsey says hi to the guinea pigs...

Not much to say that hasn't already been said by hundreds of others! But for what it's worth, Royal Mist is an excellent choice. Munnar was our favourite place we visited during our India trip and Royal Mist was our favourite accommodation. Tick!

The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and modern for India, guaranteed hot water (our first hot water for about a fortnight!).

Tea, coffee and biscuits are thrust upon you at every opportunity. Breakfasts are huuuuge and very enjoyable out on the balcony. I also enjoyed the food at dinner, although my partner found it a little bland.

Anil and Jeeva are extremely hospitable and Anil is one of the jolliest people you will ever meet! They go out of your way to help you.

Location-wise, you will need transport to get into Munnar town, up to Top Station, to Aranya, Tea Museum, etc etc. Royal Mist is located halfway up a mountain in a 'residential' area. The good news is, their 'go-to' auto driver is a really lovely man, and you know if Anil and Jeeva trust him, then you can too!

Anil will arrange a car and driver to/from Kochi (well that's where we were coming from) and all those arrangements are very smooth.

Would love to go back one day!

Room Tip: The three rooms are arranged in an 'L' shape - the middle room has the best views.

I highly recommend this homestay, above all for the warmest and kindest hosts, Jeeva and Anil. From the moment we arrived, we felt we were being treated like family members. They were both extremely resourceful and knowledgeable in helping us plan our stay in Munnar and arranging for car/guide, etc. The food was tasty, the rooms were spotless and the terrace was the perfect place for taking in the view and sharing a meal with new friends. We had a lovely stay!
