I have stayed at this beautiful homestay many times over the last few years while I've been living and working in Kochi. Anil and Jeeva are the most amazing and friendly people and their homestay is always impeccably well-kept. My favorite thing to do while there is to sit on the beautiful covered balcony sipping tea and enjoying the view. This place is always my immediate recommendation if anyone asks me about going to Munnar.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are beautiful and comfortable.

We received a lovely email from Anil when we enquired about booking telling us that the homestay was 'basic', but to us it was true luxury! The rooms are beautiful - clean and very comfortable, with lovely bathrooms. The veranda where we ate offered stunning views of the sun setting over the tea plantations and the mist rolling in. The food was wonderful, delicious and varied, thank you for always providing something suitable for our children too, they loved your cooking! Most of all we appreciated the welcome and help offered by Anil and Jeeva. The walk around the tea plantations and explanations of all the spices by Jeeva was fantastic, and their help and suggestions for activities during our stay was really appreciated, as was the car for our onward journey. Thank you Anil and Jeeva for a wonderful and memorable stay.

Such friendly hosts, such wonderful food, such a lovely area that we could have quite happily stayed here for much, much longer. Anil and Geeva made us feel so welcome and it was wonderful to eat dinner up on the balcony at night, listening to cicadas and frogs, watching mist drifting in. We didn't see the 'almost guaranteed to see' Nilgiri Tahr (endangered goat) in Eravikulam National Park but we were amused by the number of Indian families asking to be photographed with us (Mike - any old goat better than none?) and all with happy, smiling holiday faces. Munnar is an interesting area with its clipped green terraces (visit the tea museum) and colonial history, but don't bother trying to get past the starchy manager at the High Range Club in town - the ex-planters club is only open to (well-heeled) residents, even for a cup of chai. Do see the Katha Kali dancing but try to avoid the front rows unless you actually want to be called up onto stage during the intros! Do see the Kalaripayatu - hot, noisy, and smelly - more acrobatics than martial arts - but no danger of being asked to participate!

We picked this homestay on the basis of the reviews on tripadvisor. All of the fabulous reviews are warranted. This is a great place. Anil and Jeeva are wonderful hosts, helpful and knowledgeable, friendly, and just genuinely lovely people.

When we arrived Anil took us on a very informative walk around the area around their property and into the tea plantations. We learnt a lot from this experience.

They also helped us organise a driver for the next day and helped us plan our trip for that day.

The best part of the whole stay, however, was the food. We had breakfast and dinner at the homestay and it was the best food we had on our whole trip. Fabulous, delicious, homecooked Indian food. We requested vegetarian and spicy and they prepared a number of different dishes just to our taste and they were all outstanding. i am ashamed to say we stuffed ourselves at every meal!

Stay here.

We've just come back from a wonderful few day in Munnar. We booked with Royal Mist because of the excellent reviews on this website and we were not disappointed. Anil and Jeeva are wonderful hosts, and they made us feel very welcome during our stay. We booked the 3 nights 4 days package which included being picked up by car (A/c, seat belts and an excellent and safe driver) from Fort Kochi and dropped back at Kochi airport at the end of our trip. The package was great as it took the hassle out of working out what we wanted to do from our guidebook. We went to all of Anil's suggested spots which were fantastic. We saw wild elephants, walked through tea gardens, went across the border to Tamil Nadu, and much, much, more. Highly recommended if you're looking for a relaxing few days in one of the nicest places we've visited in India.

Couple of tips - Visit the Bavan in Munnar for cheap delicious food / Go early (At around 8am) if you decide to visit the Tahir goats.

Royal Mist – What a perfect name for a truly magnificent Homestay. Everything about Royal Mist is truly Royal and fit for King and Queen. From the very first email contact with Anil and Jeeva they felt like family. And on arrival greeted us like long lost relatives.

A large part of our accommodation selection criteria was based on what previous travellers had said about their hosts and Anil and Jeeva certainly lived up to their reputation and much more.

The accommodation is first rate, spotlessly clean, Jeeva even had cold beers in the fridge ( a real treat), there is also WiFi for us sad ones are tied to work even on holiday. The communal Porch is perfect for meeting fellow travellers and exchanging stories and enjoying Jeeva’s superb food – every meal a total taste bud frenzy.

Anil’s evening walk is a must and really enlightening. Anil also arranged all sorts of things for us like a day’s local sightseeing, a taxi on to our next destination and best of all a hike in the local hills with the incredible and all knowing guide Veejay where I learned all sorts of interesting things about the local flora and fauna including cool stuff about the significance of elephant poo and how to catch a king cobra ( in theory anyway )

The location is also perfect, serenely peaceful, but only a few minutes auto rick into Munnar which itself is well worth a visit – a lot more laid back than some of the bigger cities and in general the surrounding area is certainly some of the most stunning scenery that we saw on our six week trip.

And last but absolutely not least, the tiny and amazing, ever smiling, “do anything for you” Alfonsa (Jeeva’a Right hand woman) deserves a very special mention, how she managed to carry bags and cases almost twice her size still amazes me.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all at Royal Mist for making our four days there so very special. It is most highly recommended - and so all in all a stay at the Royal Mist is a Royal Must. We WILL see you again -

We stayed at Royal Mist on the Splendours of Munnar package. This included 3 nights B&B pick up and drop off from Cochin and the use of a car and driver for our stay. Anil and Jeeva are a wonderful couple the homestay is immaculately clean, there is always hot water for showers and bed linen was changed regularly. Obviously aware of european guests concerns about tummy upsets they ensure there is always plenty of bottled water, and food and drinks are always covered. Oh and what wonderfull food it is! Jeeva asked us how hot we liked our curry on our first day and gradually turned up the volume as we gave the thumbs up! Alphonsa looked after us marvellously, deftly carrying trays of food upstairs in one hand and an umberella in the other during an amazing lightning storm. This is definatly the best food we had in Kerala.
Anils advice about trips and what is worth doing was unbiased, our only disapointment was not being able to complete our walk through the tea plantations due to the guard from the TATA tea company who prevented us from using the route. But anil had prepared us that this might happen. The homestay is in a beautiful location 10 km from Munnar itself via a very twisty road but worth a visit. Our visit to Topstation looked initially like a wasted journey as it was surrounded in mist however its worth hanging about as the mist moves in and out constantly and when it lifts reveals wonderful veiws. Anil and Jeeva told us they had only had Royal Mist for 3 years but in that time they have achieved the perfect blend of comfort and hospitality, well deserving of their great reviews on TA. Thanks to both of you and for the txt and gift on our anniversary.
