It was a leisure holiday Munnar we had planned from Bangalore. Our local tour operator had recommended The Mermaid hotel as it has its roots lead to the over 100 years ago. It is run by the government of Kerala and is used usually to accommodate official visitors.
The location is pretty good as it stands over the center of the town with all amenities at walkable distance. All the rooms are very spacious and it make for a wonderful old granny home kind experience. This is a perfect place for all people on official duty or on business purposes.
However, if leisure is what you are truly looking for this hotel would not be for you. This lacks the the feel of the sheer beauty of Munnar. You would bethe missing pure essence of Munnar by not staying in some resort on hill tops fora around same price.
The hotel does not have a restaurant of its own and you'll have to go out even for a cup of tea. The other hotel facilities like TV, room service, bed linen etc are also a little mediocre. So in all you don't feel all that excited to check in into the room. It lacks that zing.
So if a quick business is on your mind, then this budget hotel would serve your purpose. Leisure and this hotel cannot come in the same line.
