The only nice thing about this place is maybe its view and the fact that it is within a tea plantation.
The rooms are dark, dirty (especially the bedsheets, towels, carpet, walls, just everything) , clamy, stinky and cold.
Although this old man seems on the first sight to be very friendly he is indeed a hard businessman. The prices of the rooms are exorbitant.....and then this old man gives you handsketched maps and informations (while repeating them over and over again due to dementia) which you did not ask for and which wont be of very much help for you....
In summary: worst value for money ......only go there if you badly need the experience to sleep in a clumy cellar

the location is awesome although driving in those muddy roads to the cottage is a challenge. the rooms are thin walled cold and i slept under 4 smelly blankets. linen is terrible, rooms very basic. joseph is helpful, old. i think it is overpriced. its ok, i guess, considering that this is a purely touristic place. try others first.

Zina's has two great strengths that put it a notch above many other budget acommodations in Munnar. These are:

1) its location -- it's nestled among picturesque tea plantations, slightly removed from the unpleasant din of downtown Munnar but still within walking distance of everything you need (including bus terminals and restaurants, etc.) It's also closer to some of the more popular sights including Pothamedi viewpoint.

2) its staff -- Joseph and his wife are a delightful elderly couple who obviously take a lot of pride in Munnar and are keen for you to enjoy it as well. Their repeated efforts to convince us to see the "best of Munnar" were more endearing than anything.

The accommodations themselves are nothing to rave about, especially considering the cost. The rooms are pretty mediocre. We stayed at Zina's in December and we froze even with the two blankets per person that were provided. That said, the location and the staff make Zina's an excellent pick overall.

He might well be a legend of Munnar with all his detailed handdrawn maps and Lonely Planet's quotations, but be prepared to recive suggestions you've never asked for!
We wouldn't recommend the cheapest room since it's dark and humid: I wouldn't ask you 700 rupies to sleep in my cellar.
However, the location is gorgeous and far from the mess.
