The tourist sport is not worth it. There is nothing you can see here. Just the view from top is good. I also found the place dirty and waste of time.

I thought the whole place was really atmospheric and interesting. From the drive up through narrow passageways; to the viewpoints over the city and surrounding mountains; to the crumbling yet in places amazingly beautiful buildings; to the eagles wheeling overhead (never seen so many) and a family of pigs (my favourite animal, it was a breed I've never seen before); to the incredible stone water tank, where we took steps right down into the earth and there was no-one there but us- all felt like an adventure.

The whole site needs a bit more love- there is too much rubbish and not enough information points. If they did that this would be a real jewel but it is already a very special place.

Saurashtra region can be considered as the land of Sages, Brave Men and Lions. Especially we are talking about Junagadh. In older times, what we now see, i.e. Junagadh city was not that developed. Initially, a place called Vamansthali (Vanthali) near Junagadh was capital of Vala dynasty along with Dhank and Ghumli, both of later mentioned were then the capital of Jethwa Clan. Meanwhile in early 1000 CE Chudasama dynasty came to the throne and their ancestors were the first people to build the great fort of UPERKOT. As the Fort was built at a slightly higher place near the foothills of sacred Girnar, it was given the name UPERKOT. First there was rule of Chudasama Dynasty, followed by Solanki dynasty, followed by Chudasama dynasty again and then the Muslim rule of Babi Dynasty had taken over the UPERKOT fort.

TIPS:
If you don't have your own vehicle, you can visit it by Auto till its gate. You can get an Auto from Gandhi Chowk. Special Auto costs around Rs 30. Uperkot being approx of 2 km in diameter, you would require some kind of Vehicle to roam around inside the Fort. Inside Fort, you can hire a 4 wheeler or a two wheeler and it costs around Rs 200.

Worth Visiting Place especially for History Buffs. Other attractions inside the fort are Adi-kadi Vav (one of the most ancient one), Navghan Kuvo (a legendary well named after a legendary ruler of Chudasama dynasty - Raa' Navghan), Jama Masjid (probably built by the Babis).
