“Budget Place with good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

For the price you pay, this is a decent place.
The rooms are OK, very basic & not the cleanest. The bathroom badly requires repair especially of the flush & warm water supply tap
The owner Mr.Jethi is an excellent help & guide & is always eager to help you
The food served in the restaurant was excellent & we enjoyed the dinners here
Location is great, just a small walk from Aina Mahal palace

This hotel is situated in a little and dusty road, in the city center but without the traffic noise.
The room was clean, but there in the bathroom there was a sign that says “don't wash your clothes in the bathroom”...
The owner is very kind; he gave me a name of a good restaurant and we talked about India and about my trip.
In the hotel there was two or three young guys that helped me with the baggage and they was very kindly with me.
You can use internet for free, but only for to see: you can't write.
The particularity of this hotel was the terrace that overlooked in the main street, and is located in the second floor.
I have choosed a room without air-condition but only with a ventilator in the ceiling, in the night there was too much hot, but probably also because I went in October and the temperature was very high; but I didn't sleep very well because there were also a lots of insects and for all the night they disturbed me

Lovely building, but the room we got was unpleasant. It was small, rather dirty, stuffy and hot - with a tiny fan that only affected half the bed.
There was AC, but the price doubles if you use it and this place is certainly not worth Rs 1000 per night.

We had made a booking based on recommendations here and in the Lonely Planet. When we got to the hotel around 8 pm, the manager had reserved this tiny, dirty room for us. We were not happy, but he assured us that two parties were checking out the next day and we would get a better room.

The next day, we waited until after check out hours, then went down and asked to make the shift. The manager just shrugged and said there were no free rooms. When we, surprised and disappointed, pointed out that he had promised us another room, he shrugged again and said "maybe tomorrow".

I wouldn't stay in that room another night, especially with such an arrogant manager, so we shifted to Prince Residency Hotel. It doesn't have at all the same location but it's much better value for money.

Close to the old city and to the market, Gangaram is a convenient place to stay in. The rooms however are extremely dirty and I am not sure anyone ever cleans them. The food is not good at all and overpriced, so are the other services offered by the guest house. Laundry rates are extortionate and you might find yourself with dirtier clothes than when you gave them to wash!
It is important to negotiate down any tour package you might book through the guest house, as they tend to take a big cut in the fare.

I returned to Gangaram yet again to stay with people I have grown to trust and love. It feels like coming home. Rajesh is a friend and so are his lovely staff - nothing is too much trouble. Wish the showers worked but you can always get a bucket of hot/warm water. Central for all the tribal villages etc - textile paradise. My friend and I are returning in 2009 but I hope to get a week there in November. Go try for yourselves.

Reasonably priced place. We found it to be as cleaner or cleaner than anywhere else we have found in India. It is also the only shower that we have encountered in India which has water pressure - praise the lord (we have been here for 4 months). Also unique is the fact that they have wifi - if you have a laptop you'll know how rare that is in India. The staff happen to be the nicest people in the world and the owner, Rajesh, went out of his way to give us information and even posted a package for us after we left + he acted as a translator for our interactions with drivers and other local tradesman with whom we dealt. On the subject of information - the guy at Aina Mahal is great but we also recommend checking out the guest book at Annapurna restaurant for some up-to-date fellow traveller's warnings from the future.

Anyhow - we don't normally do this, but as you'll need to stay 4 days to really see the villages of Kutch and organizing stuff can be difficult you are best off in a helpful place like this.

Oh - and there is a communal balcony looking over Aina Mahal and respectable non-veg food.
