“Enlightening visit”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Worth a visit to see the incorrupt body of St. Francis Xavier. It is placed in a glass casket on a side altar. Don't bother with visiting the 'museum' upstairs. It does not have any relics of St. Francis, but rather pictures and paintings done much later, of his life, plus a bunch of statues of other saints, picked up from other churches.

The architecture is excellent. It is one of the few places in India where Church buildings are so well exhibited

“the best in Old Goa”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is an exceptional. It is a World Heritage Site approved by UNESCO and it deserves to be that. The stone used in the building of this church is the famous brown-maroon colored Goan stone and it gives a spectacular shine to it.The interiors are old and religious. The dead body of St. Francis Xaviers is preserved here for 456 years and it is in a very good condition. The church is maintained excellently. It is a huge structure with great historical value. If you visit Old Goa don't forget to visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

“An interesting place to visit but not with children”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

We visited this place with our 2 children and we had a tough time. The staff inside constantly urges the children to keep quiet and after a while I simply walked out because of the constant nagging. The guides give you a lot of information which is more to do with the history of the religion that about the actual building. So when probed on the material used for the building etc the guide was clueless. So I personally felt we need to have studied about the building to appreciate the beauty of it.After seeing many cathedral in Europe which were built around the same time or earlier this building did not seem very grand to me.
