Hotel Swarna Palace.
This is a hotel located in the semi urban Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. To start with .. I can tell this hotel has lost it's charm and appeal. The way it was about 7 - 10 years back when I visited as a child, it was lively and crowded. But now people prefer to go to the upscale hotels in the surrounding areas. Thanks to the hotel chain/ brands which are coming up in this city. Hotel Swarna Palace has missed everything - in terms of charm, basic facilities/ amenity, look/ appeal in the modern sense.
The ceiling of the lobby could be more than 20 feer high and as you enter you can find sofa sets on the right hand side with no decor or I can say that It was not tastefuly designed.
The sofa is just ok if you want to sit for a minute of two. Front office staff are ok but prefer to communicate in the native telugu language. Staff are polite but don't smile or wish you well.
Check in takes about 5 minutes or less. There is no porter service in this hotel.
You can take the functional lift and head to your room. The first thing you notice is the furniture which looks classic but not confortable to seat and the furnitures/ lights/ ceiling fan and Air conditioning lack appeal, maintainance and the sense of modern charm.
Bed is rock solid and lacks cleanliness. I ordered a tea/coffee on room service and the serving staff was dressed in jeans and white shirt with the vest ... consider the fact that this hotel lacks proffessionalism they're quite boring and ungroomed. Another thing I noted is that if the door is just shut and not locked they walk in right away. They don't consider to ask for the guests permission. They are just simple and unprofessional. The tea/ coffee cups I had looked like 2 decades old and I could see the cracks inside this cup, very disappointing.
There is not sense of satisfaction after staying in this hotel.
The bathrooms are dull lit and lack appeal. They appear rather gloomy and unsafe. The rooms are not really air conditioned and lacks the freshness which a traveller will be looking at. It's just so bad to stay in this hotel, there is also frequent power cuts. The elevator is small for 2 persons to hold. Although the hall way is wide yet the carpets are dirty and lack maintenance. There's dust all over the place.
Sure Swarna Palace might have been a palace in the past but it cannot survive the competition in the present. Business travellers cannot afford to stay in a hotel like this which has lost it's class and charm. Catching up with age and cracks appearing everywhere. The hotel management may have refused to accept modernization which this hotel is in dire need of.
I suggest that travellers go to the new and upscale hotels which are booming on the
other side of the city which promise a lot and give you the sense of happiness during your stayng here.
