“Seagrape Plantation is great.”
Reviewed September 7, 2011

Great staff and *service* - which can be challenging to find on Roatan. Very helpful and friendly. Rooms were secure. The grounds are lovely and very well-maintained. Having a chlorine pool on-site was a great bonus as well. A true island experience!

We were a honeymooning couple and stayed in one of the Cabanas - which are split to accommodate two different parties. No one stayed on the other 1/2 of the cabana, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves! Mariela was really good at allocating space to all the different parties (and their particular interests) staying at the resort. The rooms are more functional than luxurious, but the beds are very comfortable, rooms are spacious, and the price and location can't be beat. Really quite a stunning spot to stay. The hammocks and deck furniture are super comfortable and a great place to hang out and read / nap/ relax with a cold beverage from the bar fridges which are kept nice and cold.

For food in close proximity, we primarily got breakfast from the Lands End resort next door which had great fruit plates, bacon and eggs, and decent coffee. We found the Lily Pond (for dinner) and The Bakery (#2) (for lunch and light dinner) to have the nicest ingredients and preparations at reasonable prices.

We had a positive experience with the on-site dive shop and the other divers who were diving with them. Relaxed vibe and good atmosphere for a wide cross section of divers. All different experience levels, locals and tourists were diving together, and all had a great time doing so. No crowded boats, and the captains were great. Great (and varied) dive spots too.

We stayed here for almost a week and were very happy with our choice, The staff was extremely pleasant and the room was spacious and clean although basic. We did not have a cabana. The biggest problem was the outside lights at nights outside the windows, if you are sensitive to this request a room away from the patio-area, Pool was clean, with nice views, and not heavily used. There was however a lack of shaded spots near the pool that still afforded ocean views. A 5-10 minutes walk to all the restaurants and shops in the West End that was safe to do all day and night too. Good value for the price.

We stayed at the Seagrape Plantation as part of a Tucan Tour of Central America and were overjoyed to be staying in the cabanas overlooking the Caribbean sea. They were comfy and secure and had a cute hammocks for two on the terrace at the front. The location was great being 5 mins walk from the bars and restaurants of the West End. It also has a nice elevated pool overlooking the sea so provides a good spot to watch the sun go down.

If I ever have the money to vist Roatan again I would definitely stay here.

My Second trip to Seagrape Plantation, West End, Roatan was fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful. Mariela has put up with my numerous questions befor I came to the Island and with Jessica they look after the main office and help any way they can.

The dive team with Racheal in charge is top notch. Dive masters Tony and Joe knowledgable and the captain helpful. The dive boats comfortable. The most people I dove with was 8 and then we had 2 dive masters with us, so I did not find the boats crowded. There are times other dive companies decide to dive close so then you may come across divers not from you group. I still feel that Roatan has some of the best diving in the Caribean. I have seen creatures there that I have not seen else where else.

The Cabana's are comfortable and clean and offer the best deck hammock ever. You relax and watch the sunset...........

It is about a 5-10 walk into the village itself in order to get a drink or a meal, but it is worth the wait. As well Lands End is next door and they have a beach bar with food, and a free sunset.

If you like it a little quieter yet close to the action then Seagrape is the place for you. Snorkle right in front off the iron shore (ladder), relax around the pool, lay in the hammock, chat with the staff. what more could one ask for.

(not: during Easter (their main holiday) there will be many mainland Hondurans, Costa Ricans, etc. on the Island. The island is full of non English speaking tourists. This only adds to the flair of the Island and excitment of meeting new friends.)

We had planned on staying at the Seagrape for only a few nights and we ended up staying our entire time. It was nice and quiet right on the water with a nice pool overlooking the ocean. The pool has a nice little bridge where you can hide in the shade to escape the sun for a few minutes. There is a dive shop on site at only $27.00 a dive. You pick out all of your equipment on your first dive and hang it up in one spot for the rest of the week, its very convenient. There is no restaurant but there is one right next door at Lands End. There is no beach but there are beautiful black jagged lava rocks all along the coast full of crabs that will entertain you for hours (they lilke mangos and avocados). You can swim/dive or snorkle right off of the cement pier. The biggest perk is that there are very very minimal sand flies here because there are lava rocks instead of sand. The sand flies at the West End Beach killed me. There is A/C and comfortable hammocks on the patios. The housekeepers and owners are beyond nice even at 10:00 at night when we locked ourselves out. We had one of the beachfront cabanas. It is locally owned and we were very happy with our experience.

We spent three weeks in the West End of Roatan and unfortunately only came across the Seagrape Plantation during our last week and only able to stay for our last two nights at $60 a night. I received the best sleep during those two nights than I did during our entire time (six weeks) while in Honduras.

We stayed in one of the cabins right on the Caribbean. They were fairly simple rooms with a full and twin bed, a tiny fridge, closet and decent sized bathroom with hot water. They did have air conditioning which was a welcome thing after over five weeks without it in other hotels/lodges. No TV, no kitchen.

The cabins are set up as a duplex style with a room next door. All of the duplex cabins are right on the sea and just steps from the pool which is kept beautifully clean on a daily basis. They completely replaced the lounge chairs with brand new ones while we were staying there.

The staff were all very pleasant and the lady in the main office speaks great English and is extremely friendly and pleasant. There is free coffee in the office for guests all day long and they do provide purified drinking water in the rooms in a small pitcher so we did have to replace ours a couple of times a day given how much water we drank while there.

The pool was open 24-7 so we enjoyed some moonlight swims under the most amazing sky full of stars. Every time we used the pool we were the only people in or around the pool which was so wonderful. And the place was quiet! No dogs, no roosters or chickens. No noisy partying young adults. There seemed to be a little bit older set of guests staying at the Seagrape (35+) which allowed for a more peaceful and less party-like atmosphere than many of the places we saw or stayed where the noise, music and numbers of people went on all night long. I'm a very light sleeper and I slept like a baby at the Seagrape.

The Seagrape does not have a beach at all but has a beautiful and unusual reef/wall of black & spiky lava rock (I think that's what it is). There is a ladder that goes right into the water for divers & snorkelers and a dive shop that's connected to the plantation itself that takes out dive groups regularly. During a storm the waves crash up and over the rocks and it's an amazing and beautiful thing to experience. The best seat in the West End in a storm.

The Seagrape is located off the main street in the West End and is about a 5-7 minute walk from the main group of restaurants, shops, taxis & buses. There are a couple of places that serve food & drinks with very limited hours that are a bit closer but for quality and flexibility I recommend the short walk into town.

The Seagrape does have another large building with hotel rooms back behind the cabins which don't seem to have views. From what I understand they had TV's with cable in those rooms. We didn't have a need for that, we wanted the view of the sea and the pool.

The only thing that would've made our stay longer at the Seagrape was if the rooms had a small kitchen so we could have saved some money cooking our own meals while staying there. I will definitely return to the Seagrape but a kitchenette would increase my stay by days & days...
