As a party of five adults and three toddlers, we started off at a different residential house on Sandy Bay Beach, a short distance from the Blue Bahia. Due to circumstances we moved to two of the Blue Bahia’s one bedroom suites. Overall we found a lovely cozy and home-like setting for the children with an atmosphere of safety as the suites form a natural enclosure around the pool each one with their door facing the center of the Blue Bahia focal point, wisely designed. Doing medical volunteer work at a different location in Sandy Bay for a month, I can verify that blackouts are not just at the Blue Bahia but along whole sections of the island and are unavoidable as are sand fleas on Sandy Bay. Agreeing with other reviews, the Blue Bahia is a five star boutique small resort setting, not a hotel so if you want that kind of setting, you will be disappointed. However if you want friendly and personalized consideration, Kent and Lisette and their staff will provide it.
There was construction going on but it was not a problem, neither noisy nor dirty. The individual suites were clean, the water did not have septic or sewage smell as in other places and there were no bugs or ants in the kitchens or bathrooms.
The restaurant menu was varied with plenty of choices. The housekeeping was daily, thorough and satisfied the needs of a family with small children.
Having a restaurant on the premises is a major advantage since taxi’s and collectivos are the major source of transportation in this part of the island which is not within walking distance to the major hub of the west end or Coxen Hole. However this location provides the peace and humbleness of the local character as opposed to the typical touristy areas of the island with the typical “hotel look and feel”.
Use of the Blue Bahia’s computer was readily offered upon request and the casual and open ambiance set by Kent and Lisette lent to the assumption if a guest asked and it was reasonable, it shall be done.
If you do not like sand fleas, wear long sleeves and pants in the hot sun, even Deet does not work, they are everywhere on this part of the island. If you cannot deal with the inconveniences the locals live with such as daily blackouts, stay home or stay in a major hotel on the other side of the island where the cruise ships dock.
However, if you want a non-touristy atmosphere, the beach within a few yards, an informal condominium-like setting for one or multiple families, Kent and Lisette provide such an atmosphere. We are appreciative of the attention and efforts made toward a cake to celebrate a nine year old’s birthday in a foreign country…it was very special.
Thank you Kent, Lisette and their staff. We shall return…just don’t get too popular that we are turned away.

Blue Bahia is hospitality at its best! Kent and Lisette are very accomodating and more than happy to help you plan every part of your vacation. The staff is very friendly, professional, and humble. You quickly become part of a big family at the resort...animals included. Every room at Blue Bahia has its own charm and most have an incredible view. The restaurant at the resort is probably one of the best on the island. The plates are large, but they are plates full of savory goodness. When I come back to Roatan, I definitely want to be part of the Blue Bahia family and I definitely recommend it for the budget traveller who wants everything the fancy resorts have without the crowds.

The Blue Bahia Rocks!! We stayed there for a week for a wedding, and the owners Kent and Lisette bent over backwards to make sure our stay was incredible. They assisted us in getting cabs, ride to airport, booking the dolphin encounter, helped me when i got a rash, and made incredible food for us! The room was air conditioned, had a great view, and was very spacious. The pool was great. I highly recommend this place.

We were just there for a wedding. There were 30 of us that Kent and Lisette welcomed by name. We snorkeled, dove, swam with dolphins, zip lined, toured the island....all arranged by our lovely hosts. We had most meals in their fabulous restaurant--which also catered the wedding. The food was amazing...especially the coconut flan.

Highly recommend this homey spot well located on Roatan with fabulous spa just two doors down.

I cried and hugged the staff on the day I left the Blue Bahia Resort. By far the friendliest group of people I have ever encountered on a trip. Kent and Lisette are so accomodating and will help arrange any day trip to explore the beautiful island.
The restaurant at the resort had the best food, by far, of the all we ate at. The Blue Bahia arranged our trip to Gumbalimba Park, where we took a fabulous zip line ride through jungle and the monkeys were free to fun about. Great fun! We are not divers, but we got snorkle gear from the Octopus Dive Shop right on the resort premises. Check out the star fish fields from the resort's beach front and the coral reef there or in West Bay. Even snorkling you are so close to the sea life in the shallow areas around the coral. Best vacation of my life!!!!

Lisette and Kent were so wonderful and so generous with us. Their staff good natured, professional and helpful. Their resort extraordinarily well-equipped and lovely. The setting was phenomenal. The food incredible. Have I run out of adjectives? We were so incredibly pleased with the Sandy Bay location - away from crowds, peaceful and calming for the body, soul and mind. If you are going to Roatan, stay here. Plan to post a more effusive and detailed review later - but wanted to get this in now as we've just returned. More to come . . . All the best from R and K.

From June 20th through June 27th, my wife and I (along with four of our friends and fellow colleagues) had the privilege of staying at the Blue Bahia in Roatan. I want to first start off and say “yes there were an abundance of sand fleas”. I will also say that it’s not just at the Blue Bahia. We went several places and found the sand fleas to be a “horrible nuisance” (this included West End and at a small diner which was beach side in Coxen Hole). Bottom line, bring Deet (or plan your vacation in the early spring). It seemed they (sand fleas) were everywhere.
With the issue of sand fleas out of the way, I want to preface this review by stating that we spent a week in the cities of Santa Barbara and Las Mesas (on the Honduran main land) taking part in a medical mission, so when we got to the resort we were very glad to see some luxuries (hot water, AC, etc) but I waited to write this review so that it was an honest look back at the vacation.
The Blue Bahia is not a mega resort…if that’s what you want, with all inclusive food and drinks…go somewhere else. Instead the Blue Bahia is like home away from home, the resort is small, quant and friendly. The bungalows are very comfortable (We stayed in The Loft). I know they are all air conditioned and the one we stayed in had fridge, coffee maker, and a supply of utensils, dishes, etc, you could even flush the toilets!
And yes, there were six of us and it was still comfortable. The pool was steps from our door.
Kent and Lisette were wonderful. They made sure we were comfortable and our needs were met. Lisette gave us the “ins and outs” of the island and made several trips into town with some us to shop for some incidentals, snacks and food. They even arranged for our laundry to be taken care (remember we spent a week on a medical mission). They employ a wonderful staff (Amado, Felipe, Sonya, Alex, and Daniel) and they were always working to make sure your experience was a pleasant and enjoyable one. They arranged fishing through Early Bird Fishing Charters, a canopy zip line tour, and even a driver. Octopus Dive School is also on site to care of your diving needs and again the entire crew was excellent. They made sure your dive experience was a positive and safe one.
The food was very good and the prices I felt were fair for the quality and portions you received. Kent takes a lot of pride in his cooking (along with Daniel and Alex). It’s primarily American fare with some local additions. There is everything from Smoked and BBQ ribs to fresh fish to some very good salads. We even went out on a fishing trip for 4 hours, brought back 25lbs of Black Fin Tuna and it was turned into two wonderful meals. The lunch meal was a combination of garlic and a teriyaki grilled tuna steaks with some very good side dishes. For dinner Kent and the crew prepared Sushi and Sashimi with the tuna. It was incredible. They even worked hard to make sure the vegetarian in our group had some options to choose from (they even went to the store and purchased several items as well to have on hand for further variety).
I will say there was construction going on the whole time we were there (and its very close to wrapping up). Was it noisy at times, yes, but I applaud what Kent and Lisette have accomplished in the few years they have been on the island (they are building an addition to one of the bungalows to further make the resort better and more comfortable). They have also become active in the island creating jobs, opportunities, and are working to make the island a great place for the locals.
As for the day to day life, they allowed us use of their computers so we could stay in touch with our family (and we did call home as well). One side note about calling home, you can pick up a Tigo re-loadable cell phone for about $50 (minutes included) and it works great at no cost to your family at home.
. Each morning there was fresh fruit, cereal, coffee and juice for breakfast, and the conversation was always good. Even on their one day off…they made sure your needs were being met.
These folks went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. Thank you Kent Lisette, Sonya, Alex, Daniel, Amado, and Felipe! Chad and Peri…part of the Arizona Gang! We look forward to a return trip!
