Owner description: The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life. Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

“Once In A Lifetime Experience!”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

This was the only excursion we booked through Carnival, on our last cruise. We chose Anthony's Key due to the reviews and comments others had left, and were So happy we did!! A van picked us up at the cruise terminal, and dropped us off at Anthony's Key. We got to get a Very up close and personal experience with our dolphin (Alita). That portion of the trip was extremely educational and informative with the trainer giving us an opportunity to learn by touching and allowing us to give her 'commands'. The Best part of the entire excursion, was snorkeling with All of the dolphins!!! They were so playful! We could dive down and pick sea grass, throw it, the dolphins would go chase it, and bring it back to us! It was an Amazing experience to swim and play with them in their habitat instead of in a tank like most dolphin swims are in. We bought the disk with all of the photos on it and will treasure the memories forever!

“Beautiful, excellent service”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We went to Anthony's Key Resort as an excursion while on a cruise. We were brought there on a bus and dropped 15 feet from the boat dock. We brought our personal gear on board and the staff took care of everything as far as setup for our SCUBA diving. They gave a very informative briefing and broke us in to groups with guides. After a 5 minute (seriously!) boat ride we were at our first dive site, Green Outhouse Wall - Awesome! Great dive, lots of wildlife and coral. Back to the dock for a surface interval - great snack shop right there if you needed anything - meanwhile the staff refilled the tanks and reset all the gear. Quick briefing and back out 3 minutes to the second site - a combination wreck (from above due to depth) and reef dive. Back on the bus and to the port (about 30 minute ride).

We definite would do it again as an excursion, and would LOVE to stay there for a vacation as they have the little huts over the water like in Tahiti and a water taxi that takes you from the little island and back to the mainland where the shops, boats, etc. are. They also have swim with the dolphin programs as well. They have nice dive/stay packages.

“Awesome Dive Operation”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I went on another Carnival Cruise (Dream) and it took me to Roatan. There I purchased the two tank dive and they used the Anthony's Key Dive operation. Very professional and just an awesome experience all in all.

“Best Dolphin excursion & swim ever”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

I have gone to all the dolphin academy's / Dolphin excursions in the Caribbean & this is my absolute favorite. You board a little boat for a 3 minute ride to the tiny little island / beach / dolphin area. You are in the water on a beautiful little beach while the trainer teaches you about the dolphins. You are not on a ledge like the other places. This is far more intimate & closer to the dolphins. The surrounding area is beautiful. If you pay extra for the open swim with the dolphins you will be a very satisfied customer. They do take photos & you can purchase then back at the gift shop... yes! they are expensive. If they had a fair price I think they would sell more photo's overall. Look at it on youtube to check it out... much prettier in person.
