Owner description: The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life. Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

Did the dolphin swim and snorkel experience at Anthony's Key last week. It was an incredible experience being so close to these beautiful creatures. The best part was being able to snorkel for 30 minutes with the dolphins and having them swim right next to you!

What can I say, wow, what an experience!! An introduction and a kiss from a dolphin, then you get to snorkel with several dolphins in a large area. There were 4 month old dolphin up to 44 year old. It is well work the price of about $105!!!

My husband and i did the dolphin swim and snorkel at Anthony's Key. It was a wonderful experience. To swim freely with 20 dolphins, including 4 babies, was simply amazing. We did this as an excursion from Carnival and this was the highlight of our trip. I would recommend this to anyone, even people who have swam with dolphins before, because getting to swim right next to them is better than any other dolphin excursion offered. The trainers were wonderful and helpful and just very friendly. Loved, loved, loved this!!!

How can one not fall in love with porpoises. Our porpoise encounter was spellbinding... well worth the ticket price. Communing with porpoises just seems to take us to a higher level... somewhere we haven't been able to reach before.

We did the dolphin encounter and snorkel with West Bay tours and were very happy. This was the highlight of our trip to Roatan. It is a little pricey, but it was definitely worth every penny.

We were picked up at our resort and taken to AKR. After checking in they had us wait around for quite a while. Once they were ready we took a small boat to the dolphin enclosure, which was a good size and well kept.

We did the dolphin encounter where you meet a dolphin and take the kissing pictures. If this was the only part you did, I think you would be disappointed. The real fun was after when you snorkeled with the dolphins and they interacted with you freely. They would swim up to you and let you pet them or sometime would almost get close enough for you to touch them then swim away playfully. I was actually startled a couple of times because you would be looking one way and all of a sudden would be face to face/fin with a dolphin. They are incredibly smart and beautiful creatures. I loved every minute of this.

One thing that made me apprehensive before we went was how the dolphins were treated here. I was put at ease, the dolphins seem quite happy and are not forced to entertain-if you want to see a dolphin do tricks for an hour, this is not the place for you. The trainers said the dolphins were let in open water with the divers who scuba and really, the enclosures are not a prison-they could get out if they wanted to. They are well fed here and so that's why the trainer said they all come back. There is also a private area for them to go if they don't want to interact with you during snorkel time.

I would definitely recommend this and would love to go back someday.
