“A place for divers!”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

The dive operation is truly excellent, and appears to place divers on boats with others of similar experience and skills. This allows for maximum bottom times and avoids incompatiblities of interests and abilities, and the dive sites are terrific with lots of sea life. The schedule allows three boat dives a day, usually with a stop back at the resort between each one, so that you can choose to take any or all of the dives on a given day. As a resort experience, I'd have to day that it's for divers. There's not much going on to occupy the nondiver. The bar scene is convivial, and quite reasonably priced with many happy hours and 2-for-1 specials. The bartenders do a great job with tropical cocktails if that's your taste (I prefer whiskey myself; the selection was satisfactory). The food is ample and always satisfactory, but this is not a culinary establishment, so don't expect originality or creativity at dinner. The service was never less than perfectly responsive, but without the consistent warmth that I have found at some other resorts. West End is a relaxed and pleasantly seedy little resort town 10 minutes by cab, where we found really excellent and inexpensive meals at places that were not typically "touristy". Try the lionfish burritos at the Cannibal Cafe!

Room Tip: We enjoyed our cabin on the key; the water taxi service takes two to three minutes to get you to the...

Group of 11 divers. We were treated very well on the resort side and on the dive side. Food is simple and good with variety. Accommodation not extravagant or luxurious, but very nice, clean. Loved the over the water decks with hammocks. Would come back again. No bugs also. But bring spray for other locations on the island.

My wife and I enjoyed wonderful diving, eating and relaxing at Anthony' the week of SEP 7th! Anthony's has GREAT PEOPLE who know how to make their guests feel like family.

The accommodations are great. We stayed in a deluxe Key Bungalow with a veranda over the water. Two hammocks on the veranda made for easy afternoon siestas. (I recommend requesting an air conditioned bungalow).

Anthony's is all inclusive and the food is wonderful. Try the Lionfish if it is on the menu!

The diving is simply spectacular. Quick trips to the dive sites, awesome walls and topography. I participated in two night dives and saw many octopus. We included a shark dive which was awesome.

Special thanks to Captain Rupert and Dive Master Frank for an awesome week of diving.

We will be back.....

David

Room Tip: Request a bungalow with air conditioning.

Lovely Dive Resort Nestled in the Tropics. Multiple Dive Boats, Gret Crew, Chamber at the Resort. Also Dolphins to swim with and another small Island to go to for picnic. Very friendly staff and all meals included.

Anthony's Key Dive and Snorkel Resort in Roatan Honduras offers a wonderful family getaway vacation in one simple package deal. We took the kids (ages 15 and 16) plus my 75 year old mother who only snorkels to the resort for a week during the xmas break.

My family are all certified divers although the resort offers various dive classes. The trip to Roatan Honduras was easy as United and American Airlines fly there from Texas and Miami. Various cruise lines stop in the city of Roatan on the other side of the island but the resort is on the North side of the island away from the cruise people. Package costs include meals, accommodations, and activities (except for special shark and dolphin encounters which are $100 additional cost). The dive package provides you with 3 45-60 minute dives each day, including 2 wreck dives. The resort sunk 2 large vessels in 1997 and 2000 that rest in 110 ft of water. Snorkelers go out on a special platform boat for 2 snorkels however there are 2 beach areas in the resort where you can snorkel anytime.

The resort has only 50 bungalows so it never feels crowded (even during the xmas week), is situated near a special dolphin research center which allows to you have multiple close encounters with the dolphins even if you do not pay for the swim or dive encounter with the beautiful creatures.

Most noticeable things about the resort is the number of multi generational families that visit the resort, often for 3-4 years in a row, plus the staff have all been employees of the resort for many years. Staff is extremely helpful and pleasant to talk with.

Besides diving and snorkeling you can use their kayaks or swim in the pool. The main buildings are located on Roatan Island, however the dolphins are kept in enclosures on a nearby island and most of the bungalows are on Anthony's Key Island, a 10-second water taxi ride away (no cost for the water taxi and drivers are always around to shuttle you to/from the islands in the bay. Very picturesque and relaxing - especially on the patio hammocks associated with each bungalow which are on stilts over the water's edge.

Room Tip: You have 4 room choices: with AC or without AC, on the Roatan Island (near the bar and dining area...

Room on the Key with a balcony over the water. Beautiful. Food was good. Diving was great. The dive boats are set up nicely and the crew on the Sabrina were attentive. We did the Dolphin and the Shark dive which are an additional charge but worth it.

Room Tip: Bug spray is needed as there are biting insects like flees and mosquitos. I only used it in the eve...

The course Director Tati is Awesome, the IDC is great , I learned lots of teaching techniques and the PADI teaching system. Tati and Staff Director Kim made sure I was well prepared for my the IE. I recommend if you are thinking of taking your IDC, do your IDC at Anthony's Key with Course Director Tati.

The Dive center staff at Anthony's Key are very friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
Staff Director Pete is very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and goes out of his way to ensure you have a excellent Diving experience at AKR.
