As the headline says, I did not actually stay at Captain Ron's. I was staying at another place just down the beach (see my review for Hobbie's Hideaway). The reason I'm writing a review is that I happened to meet Ron while I was waiting for a taxi to come along. Ron and I shared a taxi down to pick up his vehicle just down the road and then gave me a lift to West End. He paid the taxi and wouldn't let me give him any money for the ride. Later in the week, I was once again waiting for a taxi - this time to go get groceries - when Ron came along in his SUV. He asked where I was going and even though it was in a different direction from what he had originally planned, he told me to get in (as part of his personal crusade to save people from the crazy taxi drivers on Roatan!). He once again gave me a ride and refused payment. Both times, Ron gave me some great information about Roatan and when we parted ways on the last ride he invited me to come out and play a game they have Thursday nights at the Blue Parrot. I didn't make it out there, but he really made me feel welcome. Based on how well he treated me as someone he just met on the road, I'd definitely recommend Ron as a host if you need a place to stay or are interested in a dive charter.
