My Girlfriend and I had the most amazing time at Mayoka Lodge, and in Roatan in general. We started the trip at Mayoka and had planned to stay at three different places during our visit, but we enjoyed our time there so much that we decided to return to Mayoka and spend our last few days on the island with our gracious hosts John and Barbara.

I would definitely return to the luxurious and quiete Mayoka Lodge and recommend it to all travelers. Below are some highlights.

Beautiful, comfortable and very clean:
This is not a hotel, it is a small beachside villa that really makes you feel like a King, sipping Pina coladas, watching the birds and butterflies, listening to the waves high up on a poolside terrace. Rooms are beautiful, beds comfortable, and the entire property is is wonderful condition.

Delicious, healthy and made to order: Although John and Barbara will encourage you to sample the many different restaurants on the island, we kept going back to the wonderful creations for chef Ben in the kitchen. (Frangipani Boutique Restaurant) Breakfast was always cooked fresh for us despite how late we overslept, and we both really enjoyed Sushi night which brings in guests from all over the island.

Welcomed with open arms: I challenge you to stay at the Mayoka and not be sad to leave. This is a much different atmosphere from resorts and all inclusives. You will be greeted warmly by John and Barbara who were very attentive, always available to help organize day trips, pour a glass of wine, and entertain. They are living their island dream on Roatan and we were really made to feel a part of the family.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms, they're all amazing, but the top floor, honeymoon suite has the most...

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week over New Years and had a wonderful time. I spent a lot of time looking at hotel options before I came, and I selected Mayoka based on the focus on luxury and relaxation.

We wanted a place to stay that was private, hassle-free, and very comfortable, as well as in close proximity to town so that we did not feel too isolated. This place was perfect. Beautiful views from the bar and restaurant and some of the best food we had on the trip. The location in Sandy Bay is on a nice strip of beach with several docks that you can swim off of. Our dive center was right next door so we could walk over after breakfast to get started everyday. All of the guests were very friendly, as well as the rest of the staff. Prior to arriving I was apprehensive that the size of the hotel and small amount of rooms would make me feel obligated to spend time with all of the other guests (not that I didn't necessarily want to do that), but more so I didn't want to be obligated to do it or feel awkward about not doing it. Upon arrival I was quickly relieved to see everyone was doing their own thing, and there is a nice balance between socializing when you want and having the private time we came there for.

Barbara and John were extremely helpful in coordinating our activities and making us feel comfortable. It's always nice to be able to talk to people who know the island well and not have to rely on a tour book. Also, I have to give a special shout out to Alex who is the driver that assists Mayoka guests in getting places. I could call Alex anytime day or night to get a ride to or from the hotel and he'd be right over. Mayoka provided a local cell phone, which made the process seamless.

We will definitely come back to Mayoka next time we are in Roatan and were very happy with our decision!!

Thank you for your review! You are quite right that we are fortunate to be in a quiet location yet close to the "action" (if you can call it that!) if so desired. Alex has been a blessing for getting people to and from the lodge. Glad you chose us and we are happy to have met you guys! Come on back soon!

This is a true hide-a-way where one could lose themselves. The owners and managers are wonderful and will make you feel at home. Crank your heart rate down and turn your mind off to your outside world to feel the total impact of this "Lodge". The chef is excellent and the service is great. Views are super and there is a private beach. The bar is comfy-cozy and the infinity pool is divine. Just a wonderful place to hold up.

You will be pleasantly surprised to find this lovely spot on Roatan! Great setting right on the sea. Beautiful gardens and lovely rooms. And the restaurant is wonderful! Chef Ben is fantastic. A group of six of us went for dinner on Sushi night (Wednesdays) and shared the specialty rolls...they were absolutely wonderful! Incredibly fresh and wonderful blend of all kinds of great flavors. Just fantastic all around!

My husband and I just returned from a week long stay at Mayoka. We had a wonderful time! I had chosen this property becuase it does not allow guests under 18 and becuase I prefer smaller boutique type hotels. We very much appreciated the privacy, quiet and tranquility of the hotel grounds. We stayed in the Royal Cabana which is close enough to the beach for a great view of the ocean from the bed or the front deck, and to be able to hear the ocean, yet had enough trees around to ensure quiet and privacy. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, starting from the kid who raked the beach every morning and the local ladies who made breakfast on up to the bartender, chef and managers. The food was excellent and we were amazed at what they turned out of the tiny kitchen. Cocktails were good too. We especially liked sushi night-- don't miss it! Breakfasts were tasty and not too large. I appreciated the set up of the dining area too-- there were lots of little nooks so that if you were a larger group you could have a nook or even room to yourself and not bother anyone, or if you were a couple, you could have a quiet romantice dinner in your own little corner. The tiki torches and lights made it even more romantic. We also really loved the layout of the hotel, with the walkways and decks in the jungle canopy and the views from above the canopy when eating meals or sitting at the pool or bar.

The best part for me was the amazing snorkeling right out the front door. I loved being able to walk out onto the dock whenever I wanted jump in, and swim out to the reef to see wonderful corals, fishes, and some giant stingrays. And I had it all to myself! My husband went on dives with Tranquil Seas next door to Mayoka and he had nothing but good things to say about their dive operation. He also loved the ease and closeness of the dives and snorkeling. We were quite content to stay in our little paradise and only ventured out once, to see the mayhem at West Bay beach. It was fun for a day, but make sure to go when the cruise ships are NOT in town. For the most part we stuck close to home and walked the beach, walked the trails at nearby Carambola Botanical gardens (recommended), snorkeled, kayaked and dove in the 'hood and watched the dolphin trainers down the beach at Anthony's. We ate lunch every day at the Blue Bahia beach grill next door and loved the food and the friendly staff there as well.

If you like quiet, tranquility, no crowds, tasteful local decor, happy staff, endless ocean views, hassle free excursions right out the back door, good food and ultimate relaxtion, this is the place for you. Special places like Mayoka are few and far between, so go now--don't wait!

Room Tip: The Royal is the most quiet and private of the rooms

Thank you for such a wonderful detailed review! I think you hit the nail on the head as to why people love Mayoka and it is just as we had dreamed when we made all the changes. The Royal Suite continues to be quite popular and sushi nights continue to fill up! Having the Beach Grill at Blue Bahia is also a blessing for lunches! Thanks again for taking the time for this incredible review. Come back and see us!

There couldn't have been a better way to spend our half year anniversary than our dinner at Mayoka. Escargots as a starter was one of the best ones I've ever tasted and the portion was very generous. Chef Ben made me an excellent rack of lamb and my husband had the seafood risotto, very tasty and it couldn't have been filled with more seafood! The service by Terry is VERY professional and attentive. The ambiance is most pleasant; sitting close to the infinity pool with stunning views at the ocean and the beautiful lodge. Great job to the owners and managers for creating such a beautiful environment with top of the notch staff!

Four of us dined at the Frangipani Restaurant at Mayoka Lodge last Friday night. The dinner was superb! The room is open, looking out onto the ocean. Our hosts Mandy and Paul were so welcoming and friendly. I had a rich, creamy, seafood risotto. It was so good and the portion was so generous that I finished it for lunch the following day. My husband's steak was tender and delicious. We all loved it and will definitely be returning the next time we are in Roatan. Cheers!
