We had Jeffrie Baley as our driver for the day in Honduras. He was on right on time to meet us coming off our cruise ship. We stopped to play with monkey's for a long time and he took lots of pictures for us. We did the 18 platform zip line at the first stop also. He suggested the beach earlier in the day rather than later, which was a good idea so we could get chairs and an umbrella. He was right there at our agreed upon ending time, and we even stayed later since the weather was perfect. He gave a good commentary on our drive back, and found the cameo factory for us to stop in to look, and even got us some cookies for a snack.
A very pleasant day spent on Honduras.

We booked a tour on line with Victor Boden and got George as our tour guide. He was excellent and took very good care of us for the day. We first went to the zip line at Victor Bodens center and the guides took good care of us to make sure we had fun and did not get hurt. We then toured the monkeys and the birds that they have there. George took us to a great place for lunch where we had grilled sea bass sandwiches that were delicious. We then snorkeled right off the shore by the restaurant. Clear water and lots of fish. We were on a cruise on ncl and he got us back to the boat by 3;00 It was a great day and I would use this tour group again if I am in Roatan again.

This is a review of our "Best of the Island" tour with Ron Rivers. I'm writing this for Ron as well as others who are considering this tour. Along the way I might have a few suggestions to make things a little better. I do not mean to sound arrogant or condescending, but just want to help.

When you are leaving your cruise port and head to the street to meet your guide, it is a sea of people. All the names of companies are all very similar. We originally were going to meet with Ron, but he took a larger group of people at the last minute and assigned Jeffrie to us. We did not know this so there was miscommunication right off the bat so we made sure it was the right company before we continued on. There is a lot of competition for your money when you're leaving the port.

SUGGESTION: Invest in brightly colored hats or polos as well as a better sign for people to pick you out easier. The current sign is very busy and hard to find.

Don't feel like you must have Ron as your guide when you're reading these reviews. Our guide Jeffrie was very polite and patient. He made it clear early on that he is at your disposal. Whatever you want to do/see he will accommodate you....."you are like family."

Unlike some tours where you pay them for an all-inclusive experience, your money is more or less to cover gas and wear 'n tear on vehicle, your guide services and a couple treats. We brought along some cash but not near enough. We had already paid for our tour so we didn't really expect to spend that much on the island and found ourselves having to go back to our cruise ship to get more money. This was basically due to a pricey lunch at "Restaurant Brown." The food was very good, but the prices are not on the menu -- if cash is tight, I'd ask what things cost first!

You kick off the tour meeting some local monkeys and enjoy a fresh coconut! Yum.

SUGGESTION: Hand out the coconuts to the people as they get in the vehicle, not while they're playing with the monkeys....it would just be easier and more enjoyable. Very nice touch though, we enjoyed them very much.

We stopped at an iguana farm ($8/person). Was pretty neat to interact with so many iguanas literally at your feet. There are also some other small exhibits to look at.

We had a nice stop at a butterfly garden and zoo. ($10/person) The zoo was much better than the butterfly garden just due to more things to see and animal interaction.

We then went up to the top of the island for some great photo opportunities. There were some vendors as well but we were told to just wait and buy them at another stop, a local market where we'll get a "discount."

The market is at the top of a strip mall and honestly had a pretty commercial feel. We were told there would be a discount for us...in fact, everyone who entered was told that. We laughed it off because we've traveled a lot and this "discount" talk is pretty old school. So suffice it to say that if you pay sticker prices, you are a true tourist. They can and will bargain with you. We bought a beautiful bowl and a necklace here considerably under what their sticker prices were.

Next was lunch, which I touched on so I'll move along.

We were taken to a beach location which was absolutely beautiful but had to pay around $5-10 each to enter. After the lunch and the stops with the shopping we ran out of the cash we thought we had enough of. Jeffrie, our guide, worked out a deal for us to go snorkeling at a considerable discount so we went and sat in the boat when a man came up and asked for our money....the full amount. We had thought a deal was struck because we didn't have the full amount. We were embarrassed to say the least and were going to get off the boat. The driver of the boat and perhaps the owner of the tour company said he would take us anyway...not to worry.

"I want you to see how beautiful it is," he said with a large warm smile. If he were listed on here, I would write up the best review about him. Since he doesn't, I urge anyone wanting to snorkel in Roatan to please contact "Boat Island Tours" located outside of Cruisers Bar I believe. The names on the card were Randolf Pinnace and Wildell Woods. We snorkeled all along the reef and had about 80 feet of visibility. The water, reef and fish were all absolutely amazing and the staff were terrific. Please give them your business if you want to snorkel in Roatan.

On our way back, we enjoyed a couple of the famous pineapple cookies as a special treat. The tour ended with us meeting Ron and his family. He handed us some sugar cane and thanked us for letting them show us around. A very nice gentleman and a pleasure to talk with.

We enjoyed our day very much as well as our guide Jeffrie. I would recommend him to be your next tour guide....don't feel like you have to have Ron show you around. All are friendly, polite and knowledgeable about the island.

My final suggestion would be to perhaps partner up with local restaurants and some tour stops and work out a small discount in exchange for you bringing them all the business. I would then include all of this in a package that someone could pay for ahead of time so there are no surprises along the way...and they wouldn't have to bring a bunch of cash.

We had a great time, thanks to Jeffrie. This is a great way to spend the day and to get away from the large cruise line excursions!

Roatan was a port stop on our Carnival cruise last week. We are a family of 2 adults and three small children (ages 9, 8, and 2), so it was difficult for us to find a good excursion that would allow us to have fun on the island, but also allow for an easy day with a toddler. This tour was perfect!

We spent our day with our tour guide, Ron Rivers. He talked to us about our interests, and made recommendations based on our input. He made it very clear that it was up to us what we wanted to include. We toured the island, and it was so much more than him just pointing out sites that might be of interest. He explained so much about the culture...schooling, lifestyle, etc. It was very educational! He also took us to a great restaurant with some of the best seafood I've ever tasted, and there was a swimming area right next to it. He found out what kind of souvenirs we were interested in (some mahogany, as well as vanilla!), and took us to the places where we would get the best deals. Ron seems to know everyone on the island!

I will admit that when planning our cruise, I was really unsure about our stop in Roatan. However, our entire family agreed that it was absolutely our FAVORITE port!! If you go, I would highly recommend booking a tour with Ron.

On our last day in Roatan, Ron Rivers with Roatan Adventure Tours took us for a wonderful tour of the island, including great scenic stops for photo opportunities, and a great authentic lunch at a local hangout! After our tour,he delivered us to the airport in great time. We will continue to use Roatan Adventure Tours when we return for future vacations.
