Awesome trip - walked (quite steep!) to a mirador, then down to swim in the cascadas and swing into the pools. Had a great time. Prebooked with an agency, but you can arrange it with the lodge you are staying as well.

I had such a great time visiting Semuc, I gotta say there are not MANY things to do, but the few are totally worth it, 3 days and 2 nights weren't enough, but one more day would of done it. - We arrived on a Thursday around 11 ish... We had had lunch, we went down to Lanquin National park we hung around the river for a bit. Afterwards we visited the caves in the same park; after the caves we stayed around to see "twilight bats", which it was good but not many came out of the cave as I expected. Also despite the pictures on the brochures, you can't do tubing on the river since they don't rent them over there, you have to go to hotel "El Retiro" do so. Next day we visited Semuc. Our hotel, El Muro, was pretty good, service, food and fairs;however, the tours to Semuc are Q180 which is too much, public transportation to Semuc is Q15 one way, plus the entrance to Semuc park is Q30 for Guatemalans and Q50 for foreign visitors, so we are talking about Q80 each if you are not Guatemalan and you can find a tourist guide anywhere, they don't charge you a fee but actually they tell you to give them what you think is fair (you can pay them good for large groups if each pitches in) The hotel will still take u in a car (pickup) with other groups to Semuc, so it doesn't make a difference of public transportation (called Colectivo). Semuc is beautiful and you need at least 5-6 hours to enjoy it completely, from el Mirador to las pozas to the other pozas where the cascade is at. One last piece of information, I definitely recommend Shalom, is a cafeteria down the street from El Muro on the main street and is good food, clean place and really affordable.

Takes a while to get there, but it is well worth trouble. Truck ride to the pools is nearly as much funs as the swim pools. Bit slippery but be careful and there is plenty of fun to be had.

This was an absolutely incredible experience!!! You cannot come to Guatemala without coming here. I did a tour that included the guide, transportation, cave tour, tubing, hiking, and pools and loved every minute of it. It would be a good idea to wear Tevas because of the water and hiking!

I travelled through Yucatan, Belize and Guatemala. This was definitely the best 'nature' experience. I highly recommend to go!!
