“The mirador walk is worth the effort”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

Take your time. When you get to the top, you'll feel giddy with effort and success! Such a gorgeous view and knowing you're going to hike down to those limestone pools and swim in lagoons makes the sweat worth it!

“Pristine waters and a nice hike”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We have done the tour leaving from next door hostal El Portal, where we were staying. The hike is nice and it takes approximately 2 hours, finishing at the river where you can bath for 2 hours.

After, you may either stay longer at the river or do the cave tour. The cave tour is quite a dangerous adventure, but this is subject for another review.

“Stay near the park and go early to have the place to yourself”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Semuc is incredibly beautiful and deserving of all the accolades. To avoid the steep climb up to the mirador, just continue down the walkway and you will come to a less strenuous path. My advice is to stay at a place near the park and go right when the park opens. We stayed at Las Marias and went to the park at 7am. There was no one there except for the guards and the park staff. Our photos from the Mirador look just like the promotional shots -- a series of blue pools with not a soul in sight. We spent some time in the furthest pool, which is inhabited by small fish that will nibble the dead skin off your feet if you stand still. The trucks from Lanquin start arriving at 11am or so, and your experience of the park changes radically as a result.

“Lots of fun”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Semuc champey was great fun. It helped that our guide was very fun, made jokes, helped out and was knowledgable. The pools are beautiful, the caving was a blast, the swing into the river was great! However I chickened out at jump, ing off the bridge!

“Paradise in the jungle!”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

I was staying in Hotel El Portal in Semuc Campey, it is really really really close to the park, about 100 mts (walking). This place is the best one I have ever been in Guatemala, for sure!!! Amazing colorful water, green, blue, white, brown... the river with take your breath away!!! the little roads inside the park will let you explore the nature as well as the weather. The viewpoint will let you appreciate how amazing Semuc Champey is, it will take you about 20mins to get there. The water is clear and you can swim in it... Do not hesitate to visit this impressive place!!!
