“Pretty setting and restful”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

My husband and I stayed at the resort with our daughter and her two young daughters who were visiting from the United States. We found the setting very pleasant, with the ocean and white sandy beach and the resort's buildings spread among coconut trees. We stayed in a two- bedroom cottage with a small living room, eating area, and a kitchenette. Our grandchildren happily shared one big bed in the same room with their mother who slept on a smaller bed.

The meals were adequate but the service slow. The restaurant's big open dining porch was pleasant but the many flies who wanted to share the meal made it difficult to relax and it put the children particularly on edge; screening of the porch would enhance the experience of eating there. The hotel is very convenient to exploring the tourist attractions in the Cape Coast/Elmina area.

Room Tip: The two-bedroom cottage is very well suited to a small family, even the kitchenette is not used.

It's hard to imagine this resort is so close to the hustle & bustle of Accra. It's a great 1-2 night getaway if you need a break and some peace & quiet. I traveled with a large group of co-workers for a weekend break and we found the place refreshing and relaxing. It surpasses the average standards of service and facilites you get used to in Accra, because the rooms are well equipped and maintained, the gardens are very well kept and the staff is attentive (not fast, though). We specially enjoyed the spacing between each room which gives you a feeling of privacy, a suitable pool area and the quick access to the beach. Cape Coast and Kakum NP are between 30 to 50 minutes away by car, in case you want to see some local sites. I'd advise travelers to not expect an immediate chek-in upon arrival and to have cash in hand in order to avoid delays.

My friend and I went there for an over-night stay on a week-end and service, food and accommodation was excellent - by Ghana standards, so not on par with the resorts in Thailand, but still very good. Clean rooms, strong air-condition. Small pool, nice clean beachfront with deck-chairs. Cocktails and dinner was good, breakfast was ok. Service was above Ghana average, albeit still a bit slow. No power outages. Credit card payment didn't work.

I recently organized a workshop for about 40 people at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort. The resort is located on the coats of the Atlantic Ocean in Elmina, a fishing village in the Central Region of Ghana. It is also about 5 minutes drive to the Elmina Castle. The resort is quite good but I was not impressed with some of service provided.

I was in a room facing the ocean and had a lovely view. However, I was not able to get the water heater to work and help never came until I left; the room had no wardrobes and i had to keep my clothes on the bed; only a couple of TV channels were clear and despite reporting the problem, it was never rectified.

At the restaurant, the orders took too long to fulfil; some waiters/waitresses seem not to pay attention to instructions by the guests and ended by either delivering food not prepared according to instructions (i.e. fried when the order was not to do so) or not fulfilling the entire order (some items not delivered).

Staff at the hotel reception were very helpful and did their best to help the clients. Internet access in my room was also very good. However, other guests complained of lack of access to the Internet in some of the room.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view to ocean are family rooms and some have two bed rooms and a lounge

Coconut Grove was truly a luxury break for us. We travelled in a large group and they were very accommodating.

Things that worked well: The resort itself is well designed and allows for a lot of people to spread out and enjoy personal time. There is direct access to the beach from almost all parts of the hotel. The rooms were very clean with neat showers. They only provide soap though, so carry your own shampoo and lotions. The pool is great and is right by the beach. The castle at cape coast is easy to access from there - takes about 25 mins by bus. The Kakum national park is about 45 mins away by bus. They have some animals on their grounds (monkeys, birds and crocodiles), and also have an attached golf course.

Things that didn't work so well: The food was fine, but took a long time to get prepared. The menu was rather limited. Prices were higher than we'd expected. You'd need to set aside at least an hour in waiting time, if not more. Our checkins were also slightly delayed.

So I think that while they can work on improving the speed of service, it's overall a great place to spend time.

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at Coconut Grove Beach Resort which is beautifully located overlooking the ocean. We were discouraged from swimming in the ocean due to the undercurrents and rocks but the pool area was great with plenty of relaxed seating and umbrellas for shade seekers. We had a good breakfast and dinner at the restaurant each day with slow kitchen prep balanced by very friendly service. We had a couple of issues with our room (no hot water and no TV reception) but the management was responsive.
We used a fabulous driver named Patrick, (Chrisman Car Rental Services ...Tel 020-777-0887) arranged through the hotel. He drove us from Accra airport to the hotel, facilitated our visits to the slave castles in Elmina and Coast Coast,
Kakum National Park and returned us to Accra. He and his team were great in helping us to get around.
Overall we had a great time, felt safe and enjoyed the friendly people we met on our first visit to Ghana.
