“A must-see for everyone!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Elmina Castle is a reminder of the past. So depressing, if you have the heart to travel back in time in your mind's eye, and imagine the dehumanizing activities Africans had to go through as slaves.

We were sober after the visit to the castle, even though we were supposed to be on vacation. The castle is a huge part of Africa's history. It is worth visiting.

“Depressing”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

This is the last stop that the slaves made in Ghana on their way from the North down the the bathing place and finally here where they went through the "door of no return" on their way to ships which took them across the Atlantic. Not a fun place, but important in dreadful history. A must see.

“A must see for any visit to Ghana!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

There is so much history here that it can't be missed. I left Elmina with a great sense of understanding for what slaves endured during several colonial occupations.

“Great to see!”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

I visited Elmina Castle with a few frinds who were volunteering with my in Cape coast. I found the whole tour very interesting and the tour guide had great english however at times i found myself drifting off.. that was until we were put into one of the rooms that kept the slaves, it was the room noone came back out of alive! Very scarey but was one of the best parts, gave you a small insight into how it was! gift shops were actually very reasonably priced and a great selection to buy from! Happy i went to see it but would not go again!

“A very worthwhile experience”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

This is a remarkable place and it makes the slave trade and it's handling of people come alive. You can read all you want and watch all the documentaries you like, they don't give you the same experience as being there and seeing and feeling how those people must have suffered.
The buildings are well maintained and the tours can be very informative.
If you are in a position to visit this place, go!
