“Reasonable and better circumstance”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

This hotel located bit far from center of the town.
But the hotel has enough No. of rooms and small restaurant. It is not inconvinient.

The room has enough space and clean. The restauran dishes are not bad.
The breakfast is very good, you have some choices for bread and other dishes.

I recommend for person who needs calm circumstance and good staffs.
One of best hotels in the northern part of Ghana. It is far better than Guesthouses at the town.

Room Tip: If you have choice, it is better to check some rooms and decide one.

I was in Bolgatanga for work and this was my first time visiting. So I picked the hotel rated for business travelers. A huge mistake. The lobby is dark, hot and uncomfortable. The room that I was given was on the third floor in a corner of another building. I asked to be moved and was slightly more comfortable on the second floor in a middle room. But the beds were hard and uncomfortable. And the tile was broken around the shower. There is no food nearby as this hotel is outside the town so I was forced to eat at the hotel. The food was terrible, cold and higher priced than anywhere else in town. Overall, this hotel is not a good value compared to other, more friendly options in Bolga.

I spent three nights at the Ex-Tee hotel. The room clean, spacious, and better than most hotels you'll find in the region. The price was very affordable - and it's great value for money. Service at the hotel was good. I had a slow drain in my sink and mentioned it to the front desk. They didn't hesitate to spring into action - actually bringing plumbers into the room to remove and clean the drains. Impressive.

While the service for the lodging was outstanding, the food service left a lot to be desired. There are much better places to eat. Food service is poor and can take forever. It is not uncommon for two or three of us to order, but the food only comes for one or two of the group. I waited more than 30-40 minutes longer than a colleague who ordered at the same time. When I mentioned it to the two waitresses seated nearby, they could have cared less. Much too busy watching their TV program to get involved. After the 4th or 5th time of saying something, they finally went back to check on it - I'm guessing that was when my order was finally put in - arriving long after others who came later had completed their meals.

On another night, we were sitting at the table having a beer at 9:30pm when they simply turned out all the lights and went home - leaving us sitting in the dark!!! Can you imagine? The restaurant has a long way to go. It is almost hard to believe it is part of the same hotel.

Breakfast is included and laid out buffet style - so at least that morning started off right.

They are in the process of adding another wing and working on a pool - which looks like it will be nice when finished. I worry how they can add guests when their capacity to feed the ones they have is so limited. I hope the make some improvements in the kitchen and food servers.

One plus for those who don't want to drink their beer in the dark is the little bar located out on the main road and a 100 meters or so toward the city center.

We stayed two nights at the Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel in Bolgatanga. It is a nice and clean Business-Hotel at the entrance to the city. The room was equipped with working A/C and Wlan.
Currently they are in the process of adding a swimming pool.

Our travel group, the Maritimes Travel Club, had arranged a 22-day custom tour of Ghana using the well-respected (and well-reviewed) in-country operator, Ashanti African Adventures. This tour included a stay of two nights in Bolgatanga, at the Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel. Ashanti reserved 4 double rooms, 2 twin rooms, and 3 single rooms, for the nights of Jan. 25 and 26, 2013. Ashanti made the reservations by telephone three months in advance of our arrival in Ghana (we arrived 9 Jan 2013), and re-confirmed the reservations weekly with the Ex-Tee by telephone. Despite requests, the Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel would not send an electronic confirmation of this reservation, though such a practice is not unusual in Ghana, as internet connections are often problematic (though cell phone coverage is superb).

Ashanti made another call the night before our arrival in Bolgatanga, at which point the Ex-Tee suddenly claimed that the reservation had only been for 5 rooms -- 1 double, 1 twin, and 3 singles, not 9 rooms. Not coincidently there was a conference in Bolgatanga, and it was evident that someone else had requested a longer and larger booking than ours, so the hotel conveniently altered our original booking. I spoke at length with the hotel bookings manager Diana, but she insisted there had never been a booking for 9 rooms, though her explanations and excuses fell far short of credible.

She was, furthermore, unconcerned that the hotel might receive a negative review on Trip Advisor, or on other review sites. They would not undo the change, and would not release any more rooms to our group. And, unsurprisingly, there were no other accommodations available in the city, due to the conference, and the limited number of rooms available overall.

Our group had to stay in Tamale, two hours south of Bolgatanga, which was a considerable inconvenience.

The Ex-Tee Hotel was unapologetic, and unwavering. They simply dumped most of our booking after having received an offer of more rooms for a longer period. This practice is by no means unknown in the world, but it is reprehensible wherever and whenever it occurs, and it needs to be highlighted when it does occur. I suspect strongly that, because we were a tour of non-Ghanians, the hotel felt it would gain in the long run.

Accordingly, in the unlikely event that you might require accommodation in the Bolgatanga area of Ghana, I would be extremely cautious regarding relying on any potential advance booking of hotel rooms that you might make with the Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel, especially if you are a group, and if you are from outside the country. You can try to get an electronic confirmation of a reservation, but I would not rely on this.

In conclusion, this hotel cannot be trusted. It may be the largest and newest hotel in Bolgatanga, but it has yet to learn responsible and reputable business practices. Avoid it if you can.

Quite surprising to see such a big hotel in the upper east region of northern Ghana, the dry savannah region. A two storied big hotel and also expansion and renovation going on at the same time. We were a big group of a dozen of people came from no where in the evening to the hotel and the staff very smartly allocated rooms quickly to all of us. I got a room with AC working, which is a must in this hot dry region. In Feb-March, the temperature go beyond 42 degree Celsius, making it very uncomfortable to sleep only with a fan. The bathroom in my room was not very effective. Though it was clean but the water was coming very slowly. It was a tough job to take shower with thin strip of water. The bed was quite wide and comfortable. One can't expect very high quality hotel in this part of the country. The décor of the hotel is not very good. With dark blue light in the hotel lobby gave a really spooky hotel.
The food was not very attractive. The breakfast which was inclusive of the accommodation included some juice, fruits, bread, eggs, tea and coffee. The charge was Ghana Cedis 70 (USD1=1.6 cedis).
The good part was wifi worked very well inside the room and it was free. That was my pass time, other wise watching local TV with very limited channel was not very entertaining. I found the hotel staff to be friendly and they attended to our problems quite promptly.

Room Tip: Newly constructed rooms
