“Wonderful centuries old Church..”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Beautiful location up on the mountain with spectacular views of Lake Ohrid. The church has been beautfiully restored. Very historical setting and also other archological artefacts being excavated all around the church grounds. Wonderful spiritual and soothing atmosphere. Always love visiting this place.

“Surprising and stunning”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

I saw this little hand painted sign "plaoshnik" and thought "what's that?" So I walked up a little hill to be greeted with an amazing archeological site, and a beautiful church.
Church of Sveti Kliment circa 11th C.
Apparently he founded the Cyrillic alphabet which is used for the Macedonian language. Well worth a visit and then just up the hill is Samuels Fortress.

“History in the making”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Standing in the courtyard of the Plaoshnik one can get a true sense of history unfolding. In the restored church building one can see the more or less current. All around one is surrounded by archeological digs which are still in progress and are from the first centuries after Christ. In front is a view of the lake. One has to stop and think of all the history which went through this place.

“Plaošnik and St. Clement’s Church Saint Panteleimon (IX Century)”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

Saint Clement of Ohrid was a medieval Saint from Ohrid, scholar, writer and enlightener of the Slavs. He was the most prominent disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius and is often associated with the creation of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets, especially their popularisation among Christianised Slavs. He was the founder of the Ohrid Literary School and is considered as a patron of education and language by most Slavic nations.

The church of St. Climent was built in 893 year on the foundation of the early Christian basilica, and dedicated to St. Panteleimon. It was here where the Ohrid Literary School, a center of Slavonic literary and cultural activity, was found and were educated more than 3,500 disciples. St. Climent was buried in this monastery, in the tomb which was built by his hands.

He is regarded to be the first bishop of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, nowadays the patron saint of the Republic of Macedonia, the city of Ohrid and the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
