• Location: on probably the best beach of Moorea, white sand. Please note that the beach has lots of corals so you need to wear beach sandals. There is also seaweed depending on the weather. However the beach is still very nice and the water is crystal clear.
• Views: Great views of Moorea and Tahiti from the hotel (restaurant and rooms).
• Noise: please note that some of the Garden Bungalows are located close to the main road so it might get a bit noisy. I would therefore recommend to have either a quite Garden Bungalow or an Overwater Bungalow
• Snorkelling: There is also a coral garden with nice fishes in front of the Overwater Bungalows.
• Rooms: I stayed at a Deluxe Overwater Bungalow (OWB) which was very nicely decorated. Please note that some OWB do not have great views (you only see the other OWB, therefore I recommend to ask for a OWB at the end of the Ponton. There you have great views on the ocean, Moorea and Tahiti. I specially recommend room 121 where you have great views and most privacy as well as the coral garden just in front of the bungalow.
• Restaurant: the staff is not only very friendly but also efficient, both in the main restaurant as well as in the restaurant “K” (their gourmet restaurant). The F&B manager is also very good, he is always around and makes sure all is running smoothly. He also spends time to talk to guests and he is very nice and friendly – this was one of the positive elements of my stay here
• Food: Unfortunately the food is not very good. Rice and pasta are completely overcooked and most of the dishes do not have a great taste. In particular I tired one evening the buffet and there the quality was really bad, all main dishes were almost inedible. I therefore recommend to go for a la carte.
• Service: beside of the restaurant the service is not particularly good and in some places even bad: at the bar and the diving centre they are even rude (When I asked the guy at the diving centre if the card received for snorkelling gear is also to be used for kayaking, his answer was “people who can read know that kayaking is not included..” – I just could laugh about this but would say it is not appropriate!
• However, the intern from Switzerland working at the front desk did a great job, he worked hard to solve all issues on a very professional level – great job done!
• Management: unfortunately there is no manager around (except of the F&B manager as mentioned above), this could help to have an increased quality
• Cards for Towels and Snorkelling Gear: when you check in, you get these2 cards. When you want a beach towel, you must go to the bar and give this card and in the evening when you return the towels you get back this card. This destroys the whole experience as you feel like being in a Club Med and not in a Sofitel. I understand they have some issues as some guests steal things, but I recommend to make the rooms more expensive but do not bother guests with such cheap approach! And btw, in a luxury hotel I would expect people bring towels to me and not me going to get them….
• Clientele: one point which I did not like (but is of course not the hotels fault): the guests are not very chic, they correspond more to a club than a luxury hotel – a pity but again not the hotels fault
• Conclusion: good 4-star hotel with some lack of luxury. If some of the above mentioned elements are improved it could even be on a luxury level

Hotel was great. We stayed 4 nights en route to 5 on Bora Bora. Our one regret on this once in a lifetime trip was that we didn't stay longer on Moorea.

Stayed in beach front rather than over-water for a different experience from Bora Bora. Cabin was very nice, and spacious. Two odd things about the cabins - first, they are poorly lit. Bathrooms are fine, as-is reading in bed, but the cabin was too dark to do much else. Second, the windows are louvered wood, and don't necessarily have screens or glass. Not a problem for the air conditioner, but different for Americans.

The resort and its beach were great for our purposes. Relaxing to lay about, with surprisingly good snorkeling off the beach. First 5 yards of beach are mostly broken coral, and it is worth bringing some type of waterproof sandal or water socks. I don't recall his name, but we had a great time on a snorkel trip run by the guy at the water activity center.

Food was pretty good, service good but not great. We did not leave the resort for meals, but there was little alternative nearby anyway.

For Americans (and I guess Kiwi's and folks from Aus): This is a French resort. The reception staff are fluent in English, as were the staff at the water activity center. The French staff in the restaurant spoke passable English, but it was hit or miss with the Tahitians in the bar and restaurant (they were generally very, very nice and accommodating - it was just often difficult to communicate).

Room Tip: For beach front, stay as far to the left (facing the ocean) as possible. Lagoon view cabins have no...

We have been here last Year for 1 ½ weeks and had such a wonderful time that we had to return and stayed now for 3 weeks. When we arrived we got greeted by the very friendly staff with a delicious cold local juice and a wet towel to refresh. After a short introduction about the resort they bring you to your Bungalow. We had a nice Overwater-Bungalow and when we arrived we were speechless. The Bungalow is very well designed and the view towards Tahiti over the crystal clear water in the lagoon takes your breath away. Snorkeling gear is for free and you have a ladder guiding down from the deck direct into the magic world of corals and fish which you can fee by hand (they love Baguette). From the room-cleaner to the Management, everybody was looking after us and nothing was a problem. For us this is the perfect place for a perfect Holiday in Moorea.

The property was beautiful, the meals were perfect, and we loved the tours. I guess one of our favorite things were the excursions in the back of a pick up. The tour guides were so helpful, answered all our questions, and we didn't need to know much French the whole trip. It was all a delight.

Room Tip: We had room 307, beautiful view, didn't have to get our feet wet unless we wanted to, and it was...

Having arrived from 5nts in an OVB on Bora Bora, we next stayed 4nights in the deluxe beachfront hut. The room was excellent and literally on the beach, just steps from the ocean. Strangely there were no mosquito nets on the windows and patio door so we had to keep everything closed as dusk set. The bed was super comfy. The snorkelling right off the beach was fantastic. The staff and service however was slow. Given the steep rate we paid for this resort, I found it appalling that this property charged for all water sports (except for snorkel equipment which we had brought along anyway), bike rentals and wi-fi. The process for attaining a beach towel was extremely inconvenient for visitors. We rented a roadster buggy to tour the island for 1/2 a day and stopped at all the main attractions. We also took the ferry to Tahiti for an inland jeep safari for a day. In hindsight, I would recommend only 2 or 3 nights on Moorea but it is still a very beautiful destination.

Room Tip: There are a lot of noisy roosters around the garden rooms towards the back of the property.

What a wonderful relaxing holiday we had here at the Sofitel Moorea.
It was nice to be welcomed with cool pineapple juice, refreshing towellette and a flower lei on arrival whilst we listen to Hugues from reception introducing us to the resort.
As we were a little early we found a nice drink and some lunch at the bar whilst taking the view of Tahiti on the horizon.
Our overwater bungalow 216 was nice and cool when we got there and our bag had already magically arrived in th room. Our room was well stocked with a great selection from the minibar and complementary water as well as an espresso machine. But the best part of the room was the fantastic snorkelling with many many coloured fish in the clear water. They were also pretty friendly- accepting bits of bread smuggled from morning breakfast. It was a lovely experience to be able to snorkel amongst bright coral in such clear water. Bring suncreen- I dont normally burn but time passes quickly when there is lots to see in the cool lagoon water. We jumped into the water at least 2-3 times per day.
We had no trouble with mosquitos and most days we found the fan and open sliding doors to the lagoon enough to keep cool.
Regarding the food, I was a little worried that the food would be awful considering some of the reviews here in trip advisor. We had a half-board pre-paid option taking in breakfast and dinner. We found the buffet varied and offered plenty of fresh options each evening. I can understand that breakfast could be a little repeatative for some but we found the breakfast options to be plentiful. We did not eat outside of the resort, choosing instead to enjoy a light lunch of some fruit on our balcony.
The service at the hotel was warm and friendly and efficient despite what I have read from other reviews. We are from NZ and unfortunately have little French and even less Tahitian but we had no issues with communication. Our main interaction was with the bar and restaurant staff. Thank you for Edna, Mirielle, Marissa, Thomas, Guilliame and the chef at the omelette station with his little helper... you have helped make our stay memorable.
As the aim of our holiday was purely relaxation we only booked in to the circle island tour and visited the Moorea Lagoonarium. Am saving the diving and snorkelling tours for the next visit.
We hope to come back again soon. Mauruuru!

Room Tip: Both the overwater bungalows and the luxury beach view bungalows have great access to the lagoon.
