Allthough we have been there some time ago, I just need to reinforce that it is well worth it. The reef is gorgeous and if you can book an overwater bungalow, than do so. It is more than you ever dreamed. We liked it far better than Bora Bora or the Maldives.

We just got home from this vacation of a lifetime and our first stop was Moorea and we stayed at Sofitel! Top notch all the way! Richard Bondurant at Custom Tahiti Travel did an amazing job of planning the perfect vacation for us!!

Room Tip: Overwater Bungalow as far out on the pier as possible.

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel Moorea Ia Ora Beach Resort for three nights before boarding a Paul Gauguin cruise. We arrived really early in the morning and the room was not ready yet, but they let us change into our bathing suits and held our luggage while we hung out by the pool. The room ended up being ready a couple hours sooner than promised. We had a deluxe over-water bungalow and it was great. The bed with the mosquito netting draped over it, the wall of windows looking out over the ocean, the window in the floor with views of the fish below, the two-tiered deck with water access, and the indoor-outdoor shower were all highlights. We couldn't have been more please with the room.
We ate all of our meals on-property (we were with a group and breakfast was included in our package deal). It was very expensive (as is everything in French Polynesia) and just okay. My biggest complaint was the bar service. Since we didn't drink in any other bars I don't know if it's like this all over FP, but the bartenders would give you the makings of a drink instead of a drink. When I ordered a vodka tonic, I was served a can of tonic, a glass of ice, and a shot of vodka. When I ordered a Bloody Mary I was served a glass of tomato juice, a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, a pepper shaker, and a shot of vodka. Strange.
Overall, our stay was wonderful and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Definitely go with an over-water bungalow! Totally worth it!

My husband and I went to the Sofitel on Moorea for our honeymoon from the 30.10.2013 to the 5.11.2013. We couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. As soon as we arrived, we were given refreshing welcome drinks and flower necklaces and friendly smiles from all the lovely staff. When we were driven to our room, we were actually taken to the Luxury Overwater Bungalow which we had booked for the last 3 nights of our stay. I then called reception to advise of the mix-up and was told that we had been upgraded to the best bungalow possible for our honeymoon. What a surprise!!! The bungalow was simply amazing and had everything you could possibly want, from an amazing semi-outside shower, two double washing basins, a glass-bottom floor where we could see the beautiful sea life, an outside shower, a very comfortable king-size bed etc etc
The staff comes twice a day to prepare your room in the morning as well as evening and everyone is super friendly. Even through we travelled right at the end of the peak season, we had beautiful weather and 29 degrees every single day. The water temperature was 27 degrees so of course we went for a morning dip every day before breakfast. Things aren't cheap on Moorea and at the Sofitel but we were prepared and everything was outstanding and we had an experience of a lifetime.
The hotel has a nice bar and two beautiful restaurants so there are enough options for food.

Thanks Sofitel for making our honeymoon unforgettable!

Room Tip: We stayed in a luxury overwater bungalow (#121) and it was by far the best one as it was located rig...

We needed some rest and relaxation and an over the water hut at Sofitel was perfect. I loved being able to drop into the water to snorkel at any time and the coral reef and fish are worth viewing -- my best snorkeling experience. We didn't wander off the resort except for a circle island tour. Food was good -- we ate in the bar a few times. My only suggestion is that the hotel should offer a shuttle to the farmacia once a day as a service to guests. My friend needed cold medicine and the taxi ride was expensive for a relatively short trip. Staff is friendly and responsive.

Sofitel Moorea is just the perfect place to go if you are young, on your honeymoon and seeking a mixture of adventure and relaxation.

Price: Resorts in Moorea are pretty luxury priced. Sofitel is one of the more reasonably priced ones. I would much prefer upgrading to a nicer suite in a 4 star hotel then staying in the cheapest room in a 5 star hotel.

Rooms: beautiful and in perfect condition. We stayed in a superior over-water bungalow and the facilities were just top notch. The sound system was bose so we can listen to our tunes all day long. The room was serviced twice a day. There was a glass panel to view the hundreds of fish swimming beneath our bungalow every day and night. The balcony had a sun-bed and easy access to the water. There is also an abundance of fish at the Sofitel resort. We stayed in Four Seasons before and even though there was access to the water, there was literally no fish to see.

Food: Don't expect michelin starred food but the buffet breakfast and dinners were enough to satisfy. There was so much food and a nightly show at 7pm to keep you entertained.

People: The staff were friendly but what was more important was the type of people staying at the resort. Many were honeymooners and we managed to make a lot of friends.

Activities: MUST MUST do Dolphin Apnea and the Jet-Skiing tour. We were able to kiss sting-rays and swim with dozens of sharks! AMAZING!

Relaxation: Okay, this is a resort for younger people so every friday and saturday night, expect the bar to go full pumping until midnight.

Room Tip: Always request a room at the end of the pontoon to avoid noise pollution and for better privacy.

We toured all the major hotels on Moorea - the Sofitel is clearly the nicest. Beautiful setting, nice rooms, the best beach on the island, and the drop-dead best snorkeling you could want. The food was pretty good, as was the service. Only problem was that the beach bungalow we reserved and confirmed months ahead was "unavailable" upon our arrival - inexcusable, in our view. The hotel refused to do anything about it - we emailed our agent Richard Bondurant at Custom Tahiti Travel, and the hotel immediately offered to move us, gave us a written apology and a round of drinks. Very happy we booked through Custom Tahiti - would have been out of luck without them. The one tour they most highly recommended, the four wheeler tour of the island was unforgettable, and one of the best things we have ever done - spot on advice. Air Tahiti Nui business class, despite their monopoly on flights, was truly first class in every respect. Inter-island flights with Air Tahiti were also on time and very nicely handled. Glad we chose to get the advice of an expert travel agent, and very happy we did not pass on Moorea and just go straight to Bora Bora. Also rented a car and drove around the island, worth doing.
