“Lago Suchitlan”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

The lake is astounding! It is the main reason why I return to Suchitoto often. This time I took my rod and reels....no luck at fishing, but was fun to try. The boat tour of Isla de Pajaros was incredible. This is one tour you do not want to miss. Have lunch while you are down at the port of San Juan! Great time! Beautiful!

“egrets resting in hyacinth”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We took the ferry across the lake one day and rented a boat another day. We were mostly looking for birds and saw many species along with beautiful scenery.

“Nice view but there is not much you can do in there.”

I dislike the heat. You have to wear appropriate clothes if not it could be a little uncomfortable to be there. Use light t-shirts and shorts or skirts.

“Lake Suchitlan, Birds and history”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

I live in Suchitoto and commonly take friends and family out on our reservoir. The experience is ever changing and always wonderful. Local boatmen offer set tours all posted with estimated times and cost. My favorite is the tour out to the bird islands(the entire reservior was declared a RAMSAR site some years aGO) where the types and quanities of migratory water bird is ever changing. The boatmen will aslo share some local history, in Spanish about the makeing of the lake, what was there before and its effects on tyhe local economy. This boat tour costs $30/boat and you can get up to 10 people on the boat for this price. There are several other tours both shorter and longer but my favorite is the Bird Island.

“Nice lake with great stories from a boat ride”
Reviewed July 9, 2013 via mobile

If you visit the town of Suchitoto, a trip to the lake is a good one to make. This lake was created in the 70s to produce power for the country. My party and I arrived a little late to the lake and were able to score a 30 minute ride around the lake for $20. The driver gave us a good rundown on the history around the lake including stories where guerilla used to hide. This lake was formed right before the civil war. The lake is pretty but not like Coatepeque. Still charming. I would give this lake a miss if I had only a couple of days.
